Miami Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin met with the media on Monday. The team provided transcript of his remarks is below.

(On thinking about going back to G Shelley Smith as his first team right guard today) -- "Well, we don't have a first-team right guard right now. It's going to be an open competition. I don't know who's going to start the game, the game against Dallas, really at that position. I'm not sure who's going to start that position at left guard either. So we're going to have a good week of practice and we're going to make a decision and determination who that's going to be. Just because that person starts, that may be the starter the next week (or) it may not. We don't have clarity at those two positions yet and it's up to them to keep playing. Keep practicing and keep playing."

(On plays where the team didn't get much from the running game and if that was mostly because of the blocking or running backs not breaking tackles) -- "I thought there was too penetration. I think one of the things I said right after the game was, when you have as many negative runs as we had in the ball game, my first thought, I think my eyes were seeing that, but I wanted the film to confirm is that you're blocking units on the D-line (defensive line) and or the linebackers were into the backfield too much. I think that was problem number one. I would say problem number two is we didn't break a lot of tackles, but I would say the first issue was the penetration from the front center."

(On CBs Brent Grimes and Cortland Finnegan) -- "I felt they both played well. I thought that the other night, I liked the way both of them played. They're very knowledgeable guys and I think some of the things there, they both have very good instinct and so, if you couple instinct with athletic ability and good fundamentals and technique, you're going to have something. The hope is that we continue to develop Courtland fundamentally within the system and the scheme. He continues to get the deeper knowledge base of what we're doing and continues to get better. But so far, I like what see."

(On CBs Brent Grimes and Cortland Finnegan's experience) -- "All of those reps count. As we like to say, the repetitions that you get in practice and in the games, they've got to account for something. I think veterans of Brent and Courtland's age and experience, all that, that helps. Brent's in his second year here. This is obviously Courtland's first, but he's picking up things very well."

(On the play CB Brent Grimes made the other night where he forced a fumble and what that says to him) -- "I thought it was a great example of the second preseason game, the guy's been to the Pro Bowl, on a play away, not giving up on a play. Finishing a play. We obviously showed it to the entire team. We did a study on how fumbles are caused in the National Football League. (Quarterbacks coach) Zac Taylor did a great study. We presented some that to our team early in training camp to talk about the importance of ball security and the guys make fun of me, but every night I usually show a picture of a running back or a receiver on our team from practice carrying the ball the proper way. And I'll ask, ‘Hey, if we we're running a play to the right, I'll ask the running back what direction you're running Lamar (Miller)?' And he'll say, ‘Over to the right.' ‘What arm should you have the ball in? And he'll say to the right.' So we saw the play last night and the other night and low and behold I think he was carrying the ball, he running down the left sideline, had the ball in his right arm and you had an opportunity to knock the ball loose. Football's not a complicated game. We tell those guys all the time, you have to do things right and consistent. That's a huge play in the game. We would have been down, what 14-3? Huge play."

(On how big it was to have TE Charles Clay back in the lineup against Tampa Bay) - "It was great to have him. You all know what he did last year. He's one of the harder working guys on the football team and he sets a great example on the practice field and in meeting rooms, off the field as well. He's an important part of the team. He's a respected player on the team, I know by his teammates and the staff. So it was good to see him out here."

(On if leadership in the NFL is something concrete or abstract) - "I think it's concrete, but I think it can be taught and developed, and worked on on a daily basis. It' like, I don't know that somebody is born with a great voice and they never work at it and they all of the sudden (turn it on). We've heard the term that ‘he's a natural leader' and certainly there is some instinct and some natural things about playing football or leading or journalism, I'm sure. But I think you have to work at it to be great. To be a great leader, I think you have to work at it and it's not just, ‘Yeah I'm a great leader and I always was and I always will be.' I think it takes time, it takes effort."

(On the low yards per carry numbers the past two games and what would be an ideal average) - "It's more about the efficiency of the running game to me than a pure average. I could sit up here and say that yeah, we'd love to average, I think we've been around 3.9 and 4.0 my two years here, somewhere around there, give or take. I think it's more about the efficiency, being able to run the football when you want to run the ball or when you have to run the ball. So I don't want to get tied down to a number. Certainly, I think four yards is a little bit of a measuring stick. We'd like to be above that, certainly. But I think more important than just looking at a piece of paper and saying we're averaging four yards a carry or 4.5 is how are those yards coming? Did we have two 80-yard runs and a bunch of one-yard gains? Are we efficient? Are we moving the sticks? There is a lot that goes into it. Certainly, you'd like to be above four."

(On if it was nice to have owner Stephen Ross out at practice) - "Did you notice I was coaching more today? (joking). Yeah, it was great to have Steve here. He was down here a couple of weeks ago with the guys. He'll be here Saturday again. He's coming back Saturday. The more he's here, the better. He's shown more interest, more determination and persistence to get this thing right than I've ever seen in the two and a half years I've been around. So it's been great."

(On his dance at the Kickoff Luncheon) - "Yeah, I had to be a good sport. I got called out in the middle of the luncheon. Again, I had to be a good sport and show those famous, I guess they're becoming famous moves now."

(On what about this team makes him optimistic that this is going to be the year) - "I like the way they prepare every single day. I like the attitude they have when they come into the building. I like the way they work with the staff, with one another, the way they treat other people. I thought they've done a good job on the road on the two trips we've taken together. It's a good group of men. It's a high character group. I'm excited about what they're going to be able to accomplish together."

(On if with X's and O's, this team is in the best position since he's been here) - "Well, offensively, it's a new system, so we're still working through some of that stuff. But I think we've made good progress there. As we watched the film from the other night, we didn't see a lot of mental errors that sometimes you would associate with a quote new scheme. I like how the guys are picking up the system. Certainly, defensively, we're further along than we've ever been."

(On if professional football players understand where they are when they get to the third preseason games) - "I think most of these guys are pretty smart guys. Again, we've been at it together for what has it been three weeks and change? Most of them are pretty intelligent. They sit in the meeting rooms and they watch the film and they watch the guys at their position groups and they know how the reps have gone and they know what the coaches think of their performance. We're very clear and candid and honest about how we feel they're doing. I had a young player up in my office today talking about some of those things. I don't think there's necessarily any confusion about it or you have to urge them. The good news is we have a lot of guys that have the sense of urgency on their own to make this ball club and they want to contribute."

(On if that's something that has evolved during his tenure here) - "I think it's evolving, but I think this year has been the best that we've had."

(On how much uncertainty he has about who the kicker will be on opening day) - "We'll see, we'll see. We've got a lot of time. I think we have almost three weeks before we open up and we'll see what happens."

(On if the kicker spot is open for competition) - "We're open to anything. We haven't named any kicker. I don't know who's going to be kicking for the New England game yet."

(On how encouraged he's been by WR Rishard Matthews thus far) - "I thought he made some good plays in the game the other night. He's been productive here on the practice field. The one thing that we talk to the guys all of the time about is taking the practice to the game, taking the meeting room to practice, taking the practice field to game field. By and large, I think he's done a good job of that."

The Miami Dolphins beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Saturday night, coming away with the 20-14 victory. Early in the game, quarterback Ryan Tannehill connected with rookie receiver Jarvis Landry for a gain of 26 yards.

In the first quarter of the Miami Dolphins' victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Saturday night, quarterback Ryan Tannehill connected with rookie wide receiver Jarvis Landry for a 26-yard gain. The Dolphins had the ball at their own 23-yard line following a 12-yard throw and catch from Tannehill to Brandon Gibson for a first down conversion.

Miami lined up with tight end Dion Sims (80) on the left side of the offensive line, running back Lamar Miller (26) in the backfield, wide receiver Mike Wallace (11 - not pictured) on the left side, and receivers Brian Hartline (82 - not pictured) and Landry (14 - not pictured) on the right. The defense responded with linebackers Mason Foster (59) and Lavonte David (54) in the box. Defensive end Adrian Clayborn (94) is spread wide on the defensive left, which will ultimately play right into Miami's scheme. Leonard Johnson (29 - not pictured) is lined up over Landry, who is in the slot just out of the frame.

At the snap, Landry and Hartline begin running parallel slant routes, while Wallace looks to draw his coverage with a double move up the field. In the backfield, what makes this play effective is a great play action fake from Tannehill, a fake that Miller sells well. That move freezes both linebackers, and draws Johnson off his coverage of Landry to try to fill the giant hole in the defensive line left from Clayborn's positioning out wide.

Changing views of the play to the endzone camera, the gap in the defense that draws Johnson's attention is clearly visible. Tannehill's fake pulls in Johnson, as well as Foster and David.

As Tannehill pulls up the ball for the quick pass, Johnson is realizing it was a fake, but by then, Landry is wide open. Tannehill's quick decision on where to go with the ball after the fake ensured Landry had the chance to make the catch and keep moving up field.

Switching views again, the incorrect read from the two linebackers and Johnson is obvious, as they all start trying to backpedal off of the line of scrimmage.

Tannehill's throw clears just over David's hands and to Landry, who is wide open in the middle of the field.

As the ball reaches Landry, the placement is perfect, as is the catch. Tannehill put the ball directly in front of his receiver, allowing Landry to catch the ball in full stride. Landry catches the ball cleanly with his hands, not trying to use his body for the reception. He then immediately begins moving up field.

The play design, and the effective play action fake allows Landry to get the ball with a five-yard cushion, and the space to start adding yards after the catch.

Landry looks to split Mark Barron (23) and Dashon Goldson (38) as he reaches the 45-yard line. Unfortunately, they would be able to pull him down.

But not before he is able to add a couple more yards.

And, just in case you were not sure, Landry makes sure to clarify that his 26-yard catch-and-run is, in fact, good enough for another Miami Dolphins first down.

We bring back a favorite from last year: our live thread roll call. This year, we add some new features.

The Miami Dolphins beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last night, coming away with the 20-14 victory. Throughout the game, we ran a live thread here on The Phinsider, where fans could discuss all of the game action. Today, we take a look back at those live threads, and who was commenting. We add a new feature, however, with word clouds for each of the two live threads.

We had 48 commenters, with over 900 comments. Here is the full list of everyone who made at least one comment, in order by the number of comments made:

The Miami Dolphins beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last night. Whose stock rose, and whose fell, from the game?

The Miami Dolphins came out of Raymond James Stadium with a win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last night. The second Preseason game featured some strong performances from the Dolphins, as well as some players who saw their stock value fall. Who had the top gains and losses from the contest?

Stock Up: Matt Moore, quarterback - Both Moore and starter Ryan Tannehill were sharp during the game, though Moore directed touchdown drives, where Tannehill did not. Add in the fact that Moore seemed to have the more room to gain value, and he gets the nod here. Fans were ready to move on from Moore, wanting him traded or released, rather than pay his large cap number. After last night's performance, and understanding what kind of backup quarterback Miami is lucky enough to have, that talk should go away. Moore stats: 13-for-19, 158 yards, 1 touchdown pass, 111.3 passer rating

Stock Down: Dallas Thomas, guard - The backlash against Thomas this morning may be a little over-the-top, given he was facing Gerald McCoy for much of his playing time, and this is just Thomas' second NFL (preseason) start. That's a tough task for any second year player. The concern, however, should be justified, as the Dolphins have to face Vince Wilfork and Kyle Williams in Weeks 1 and 2 this year, as well as Ndamukong Suh later in the year, and having a guard able to block a big name defensive tackle is a requirement for Miami. Thomas does not have a lot of time to grow into the position, so the Dolphins looking at other options - on the roster or potentially on another team's roster - is the right answer at this point. Thomas could still develop into a good offensive lineman at the NFL level, but Miami may not have the luxury of allowing him time to develop.

Stock Up: Rishard Matthews, wide receiver - If Matthews has not claimed a roster spot by now, then it is not clear what a receiver has to do to earn that spot. Matthews stepped up last year to fill a receiving corps that was plagued by injuries. Now at full strength, Matthews is still showing that he should be a factor in the passing game. A beautiful toe-tapping touchdown catch just before halftime gave Miami the lead, and the momentum, for the remainder of the game. Matthews stats: 3 receptions, 43 yards, 1 touchdown

Stock Down: Lamar Miller, running back - Similar to Thomas above, perhaps the ridicule of Miller is a little exaggerated. The Miami offensive line did not do the starting running back any favors against a very strong defensive line. Miami was also without two of their top running backs, with Knowshon Moreno and Daniel Thomas not playing in the game, but when you gain three yards on three carries, your stats as a starting running back are not glowing. Miller has to find a way to compliment what appears to be a sharp passing game, and right now, he's not exactly doing that. Miller stats: 3 carries, 3 yards

Stock Up: Terrence Fede, defensive end - Is there anything Fede has not done at this point? Kick a field goal? Throw a touchdown pass? It just seems that, whenever Fede is on the field, good things are going to happen. He is everywhere on the field, and making an impression. Remember when the Dolphins were ridiculed for selecting the Marist College defensive end in the seventh round, because he was from a small school and would not adjust to the NFL? I don't either. Fede is fast becoming a fan favorite, and his play justifies that following. Fede stats: 2 tackles, 1 sack, 1 QB hit, 1 fumble recovery

Stock Down: Mike Wallace, wide receiver - Wallace was targeted three times in the game, coming up with no receptions. One of those was a deep ball, which appeared to be perfectly placed by Tannehill; Wallace said after the game it was exactly where the ball should have been placed, but that he was held on the route. Looking back at the play, it does appear there may have been contact down the field, and in an era where referees are calling everything even close to contact, it could have drawn a flag but did not. The real reason Wallace is on this list, however, is not the deep ball, but rather the screen pass he botched. The Dolphins set up a beautiful bubble screen, with two receivers in front of Wallace to block, and a perfect throw from Tannehill - only to see Wallace let the ball hit him in the chest and bounce away. Horrible play. Wallace stats: 0 receptions, 0 yards (3 targets)

Others considered: Stock up - Koa Misi / Dannell Ellerbe - the two linebackers seemed to have a much better game tackling. Ellerbe was called for a downfield hold that negated a sack, but overall, the linebackers seemed to have a decent game. Maybe not spectacular, but decent. John Potter - the new kicker for the Dolphins connected on a 48-yard field goal early in the game, then backed it up with a 51-yarder. Will Davis - the second year cornerback is again starting to show the playmaking ability he flashed last training camp. Stock down - Jimmy Wilson - starting at safety for the first time, Wilson has to transition to being the last line of defense for Miami. He tried for the big hit on Mike Evans during the game, instead of wrapping up, and Evans simply bounced off and nearly scored a 42-yard touchdown if not for a great play from cornerback Brent Grimes.

Eight observations following the Miami Dolphins 20-14 preseason victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Miami Dolphins earned their first victory of the preseason Saturday night against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Yes, this is the definition of a moral victory as it doesn't count for anything, but these games are important for evaluation and practice. These games also give us a sneak peak into what we can expect from the team, both positive and negative.

The Dolphins showed promise in a few areas and weaknesses in others. Here are my eight thoughts following the Dolphins first victory of the preseason.

1. Matt Moore proved himself to be the Dolphins back up with great play vs. the Bucs

Moore completed 13 of his 19 attempts for 158 yards and a touchdown and led three of the Dolphins' four scoring drives. Moore looked sharp against the Bucs second team defense and proved that how important the insurance he provides is to this team.

Helping Moore's case is the fact that Brady Quinn didn't play particularly well, though it's worth noting that's he's only been on the team for less than a week. Even so, the notion that Quinn had a chance to outplay Moore for the Dolphins' backup quarterback spot was a farfetched idea to begin with. It's likely that Quinn was brought in simply to give the Dolphins a third option at quarterback who is more experienced and talented than Seth Lobato.

Either way, Moore proved that he is a fine "break in case of emergency" option if Ryan Tannehill were to ever suffer an injury.

2. Dallas Thomas was an issue

Thomas was matched up against All-Pro Gerald McCoy, one of the best defensive tackles in the league, for most of his time in the game. McCoy did exactly what you'd think a top DT would do to a guard starting his second NFL game. Mauled him. It was tough to watch at times as McCoy would violently break through Thomas' attempted block or push Thomas yards into the backfield to disrupt a play.

Thomas will distinctly remember every detail of his manhandling, but none more than the play where McCoy flew right past Thomas to get a strip/sack Ryan Tannehill.

Saturday night couldn't have been good for Thomas' confidence, but Thomas psyche will likely take another hit soon when the coaching staff experiments with different options at right guard, a position that Thomas has held down since the start of training camp.

Thomas was a liability Saturday night due his lack of strength and physicality against one of the strongest and most physical DTs in the league. This doesn't mean that Thomas cannot get better or stronger (though I think physicality is an intangible trait), but his seemingly looming demotion will be well earned.

On the bright side, we'll likely get an extensive look at Billy Turner at right guard.

3. Top 5 WRs have identified themselves

Mike Wallace, Brian Hartline and Jarvis Landry have been firmly planted on this roster, but the final three spots (presuming the Dolphins kept six WRs) were thought to be up for grabs.

However, Rishard Matthews, who has been having one of the best camps' out of everyone in Miami and had a touchdown Saturday night, and Brandon Gibson, who has proved he has recovered from 2013 major knee surgery and picked up where he left off before the injury by consistently making big plays, have proven themselves to be clearly better than the competition.

I'd even go as far as to say Matthews and Gibson, the only two Dolphins with a receiving touchdown this preseason, have played the best out of all of Miami's receivers so far this preseason.

This means that only one wide receiver slot is open. The race will come down to the best man between Damian Williams, Kevin Cone, Matt Hazel and Armon Binns, and it appears that Williams has grabbed a slight lead with his knack to be in the right places and make catches. Williams led the team with three catches for 46 yards Saturday night.

4. Will Davis continued to be a route-jumping assassin

Davis, a 2013 third round pick, has been a full-out ball-hawk this preseason. I have an unofficial count of seven potential interceptions on balls that Davis either had in his hands or had a chance to make a play on.

If Davis had been finishing these plays and producing turnovers, he would likely be the talk of preseason. Even so, we can appreciate his large amount of pass deflections and his (for lack of a better-than-cliché term) nose for the football.

We are seeing flashes of potential from young players on the Dolphins roster. This is a good sign of not only individual development but also overall team development.

5. 1st team rush offense was awful

This is the area of the team I am undoubtedly most worried about. The Dolphins had minus-5 yards on nine carries behind the starting line in the first half. The only back who averaged over two yards per carry was Cameron Marshall (2.8), who was playing against the Bucs third team defense.

The interior of the Dolphins line is the weak link with the absence of Mike Pouncey, but rookie right tackle Ja'Wuan James was also victimized on a play where he was pushed into the running back then to the ground as his man wrapped up the tailback for a loss.

The Dolphins will have a very tough season if they consistently find themselves in second-and-third-and-long situations. Being able to create a push in the run game so that a yards-per-carry average of at least four can be sustained is crucial to creating the balance that the Dolphins desperately needed last season.

Bill Lazor wants to run the ball and he comes from a pedigree that has groomed him to lean towards running the ball. However, Lazor will be handcuffed in a way similar to that of Mike Sherman in what he will be able to do if his offensive line cannot run block efficiently.

6. Terrence Fede and Chris McCain flashed

Fede, once again, looked big, strong and athletic, but he also showed off his football IQ for the second straight week. Fede has an instinct for sniffing out when something is cooking in the flats on his side of the field and disrupting the play. It's always great to watch talented players make smart football plays (and it's what separates the good from the great).

Fede also recovered a fumble caused by Dion Jordan, who finally made a little noise on a play where he was being blocked pretty well but managed to reach his long arm in for the strip/sack.

The Dolphins either really like McCain or are growing more concerned with their linebacking unit (probably a mix of the two), but either way I was happy to see McCain earn snaps with the first team defense in the second quarter.

McCain had two tackles on the night and both plays went for no gain.

7. Jimmy Wilson had another ugly missed tackle

I'm a fan of Jimmy Wilson. But his missed tackle in the second quarter of the Dolphins game against the Bucs, which featured him bouncing off of Tampa Bay receiver Mike Evans like a rag doll after failed to wrap up, CANNOT happen when he is playing as the last line of the defense.

I'm still not worried about Wilson filling in for Reshad Jones while the latter serves a four-game suspension for PED use, but seeing a terrible tackling attempt from Wilson for the third consecutive week when the Dolphins face the Dallas Cowboys next Saturday will sway my thoughts very quickly.

One missed tackle from Wilson a game could easily equate to one long run or reception a game for the first four weeks of the season. That's something that cannot happen.

8. Hickey's first draft is shaping up to be a good one

This observation may be a bit premature, but Hickey's first draft has yielded a good amount of possible hits, especially value-wise. Hickey added two players who will immediately contribute to the team (Ja'Wuan James and Jarvis Landry) and another six rookies (Damien Williams, Billy Turner, Anthony Johnson, Chris McCain, Terrence Fede, Jordan Tripp) who could find themselves in starting/significant roles by the time the season reaches it's end, assuming they all make the team.

On top of those eight rookies, the Dolphins also have Walt Aikens, who could turn out to be a long-term solution at safety (Louis Delmas is on a one-year contract).

Arthur Lynch and Matt Hazel, who are both forgotten men as they battle injuries and struggle to earn reps, are the only two who haven't flashed from this draft class.

A draft class is generally considered successful if it produces three quality starters. Based on that scale, it seems that it's already safe to say that this was an impressive first go-around as a general manager from Dennis Hickey.

The Dolphins received the opening kickoff, and were able to convert on their first third down of the game, but stalled a few plays later. The team was not able to duplicate their hot start against the Atlanta Falcons last week, where Ryan Tannehill drove the team straight down the field for a touchdown.

Tannehill missed on two passes in that opening drive, his first two incompletions of the year. He missed on a long pass attempt to Mike Wallace, the ball coming down just in front of the streaking receiver, who, in the era of everything being called against the defense, did not get a call on what appeared to be pass interference. The next play, Tannehill threw the ball away when Brandon Gibson was covered.

After the punt, the Dolphins were able to force the Buccaneers to likewise punt, thanks to a Jared Odrick sack on third down. Miami was then able to drive into field goal range, where John Potter connected on a 48-yard kick. Miami took the 3-0 lead into the second quarter.

The game changed early in the second quarter, when Gerald McCoy, who had been disruptive early in the game, simply blew through the A-gap and past second-year guard Dallas Thomas, to sack Tannehill. The sack also resulted in a fumble, which Tampa Bay was able to recover. Four plays and 25-yards later, Josh McCown found Vincent Jackson in the back of the endzone for the seven-yard touchdown.

Tannehill came out of the game after that, with Matt Moore making his preseason debut. Tannehill finished the contest 9-for-14 for 110 yards, with the one sack and fumble. He had a 88.4 passer rating on the night.

The game slowed down as the starters began rotating out for both teams. Olivier Vernon was able to get the second sack of the game for Miami, getting to Mike Glennon and pulling him down with some help from Randy Starks.

Miami got lucky midway through the second quarter, when Mike Evans ran for what was originally ruled a 42-yard touchdown reception. After bouncing off of Jimmy Wilson, Evans appeared destined to score. Brent Grimes, however, chased him down from behind and stripped the ball at the one-yard line, with the ball going into the endzone before going out of bounds. After review, the ball was rightfully ruled a fumble and Miami's ball on a touchback.

After review, the Matt Moore to Rishard Matthews touchdown pass stood, thanks to a gorgeous toe tap from Matthews.

The Dolphins would take the lead late in the second half on a gorgeous floating pass from Moore to Rishard Matthews. The play would be reviewed, but Matthews clearly tapped his toes and was able hold on for the score and a Miami 10-7 lead at the break.

The Dolphins gained 207 yards through the air in the first half, but had a negative five yards rushing, a major concern carrying over from the 2013 season. Tampa Bay finished the half with 107 passing yards and 36 yards rushing.

The Buccaneers would go three-and-out on their first possession of the second half, punting the ball back to Miami. Moore took the field again for Miami, and directed a methodical drive 9-play, 71-yard drive down the field, capping it with a one-yard touchdown run from Damien Williams. Miami extended the lead to 17-7 with just under nine minutes to go in the third quarter.

On the next drive, Dion Jordan was able to get to Glennon and record the strip sack, on the sixth play of the drive. Terrence Fede, who has been impressive throughout training camp and the preseason, was able to fall on the ball and give Moore and the offense yet another chance to score.

The offense was unable to get anything going, but Potter was able to connect from 51-yards to add another three points to Miami's total, bringing the lead to 20-7.

Brady Quinn makes his Dolphins debut, seven years after it was expected.

After the field goal, the Buccaneers would punt the ball back to Miami. The Dolphins would go three-and-out on the drive, but the plays were notable for Miami for another reason. Seven years after everyone expected the team to draft him, Brady Quinn made his Dolphins debut.

Moore finished the game 13-for-19 for 158 yards with a touchdown and a 111.3 passer rating. Quinn was 4-for-4 for 22 yards and an 89.6 passer rating. Damian Williams led the team with three receptions and 46 yards, while Rishard Matthews added three catches of his own, tallying 43 yards and one touchdown. Damien Williams led the rushing attack, with 11 carries for 20 yards, and a score. Starting running back Lamar Miller only gained three yards on three carries.

The game turned into a punt fest after that, with neither offense really able to put together a sustained drive. The good news to that was, punter Brandon Fields demonstrated that he is regular season ready, averaging over 50 yards per punt on the night.

Tampa Bay was able to put one final touchdown on the board with 14 seconds remaining in the contest, with Mike Kafka connecting with Lavelle Hawkins on a fourth down conversion from the 13-yard line.

The Dolphins suffered a couple of injuries during the game, with running back Marcus Thigpen being forced from the contest with a hamstring injury and Terrence Fede limping off the field late. Thigpen is on the bubble to make the roster this year, so a lengthy absence could be a problem for him (as could the offsides penalty on a kickoff which was called on him during the game). Fede, who had a fumble recovery and a sack on the night, appeared to just have a minor leg issue, and seemed to be walking better as he got toward the sideline, shaking out whatever was the issue.

The game did not answer a lot of the questions still lingering around the Dolphins. The running game was still non-existent for Miami, tackling was better but not great, and the offensive line struggled, particularly Dallas Thomas with Gerald McCoy. At the same time, however, Tannehill still looks sharp, making good decisions and getting the ball out quickly. He was sacked one time, but that was the line allowing McCoy through, and not due to holding the ball too long; though Tannehill does need to protect the ball in that situation.

The Dolphins will officially break training camp tomorrow, then return to the practice field on Monday on a regular season practice schedule. Those practices will be closed to the public, but media will be allowed to view the early portions of the workouts.

Miami hosts the Dallas Cowboys in Week 3 of the Preseason, with kickoff next Saturday at 7pm ET.
