The Miami Dolphins have signed wide receiver Julius Pruitt, according to a report. Pruitt spent the 2011 season with Miami.

The Miami Dolphins have spent the last couple of days looking for a replacement to wide receiver Armon Binns, who tore his ACL and MCL this week. At the end of the day, however, the team turned to a familiar face. According to the Sun Sentinel's Omar Kelly, the Dolphins have signed Julius Pruitt.

Pruitt spent the 2011 season with the Dolphins, serving primarily as a gunner on special teams. He originally signed with the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent from Division II Ouachita Baptist in 2009, spending the majority of his first two years on the practice squad. He was released early in last year's training camp.

The Dolphins looked at Austin Collie and Laurent Robinson before choosing to bring back Pruitt. Having spent time with the Dolphins in training camp last year, Pruitt's familiarity with the basic offense may have been a factor in that decision.

Besides Binns, the Dolphins also have wide receivers Rishard Matthews and Brian Hartline nursing injuries.

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Armon Binns tore his ACL and MCL earlier today, leaving the second half of the Dolphins' depth chart at the position wide open. Could Miami be looking to free agency to add a number four receiver?

The Miami Dolphins and wide receiver Armon Binns received bad news earlier today when he was diagnosed with torn ACL and MCL tendons in his knee. Just like that, Binns lost his 2013 season and the Dolphins lost their number four receiver.

While the team could look to players like Marvin McNutt, Brian Tyms, or Rishard Matthews, to fill the position, the Dolphins are likely taking a look at players that are available via free agency right now. Of course, we can do the exact same thing:

Looking at the list, the two most likely candidates are Laurent Robinson or Brandon Lloyd, although with the youth movement going on in Miami this year, another undrafted free agent could be brought in to fill the roster spot.

Anyone on that list you would like to see the Dolphins pursue? Any UDFA out there you have been keeping an eye on? Or should the Dolphins just stand pat, and hope that the receivers they currently have will be able to man the depth chart? Maybe they should just wait to see who gets waived during the early roster cuts?

A couple of days ago, we took a look at the wide receiver roster bubble. Now, with news that Armon Binns has been lost for the year, it's already time to update that post.

Well, unfortunately, it did not take long for us to have to relook the Miami Dolphins' wide receiver situation. Just a couple of days ago, we took a look at the Dolphins' wide receiver roster bubble. Today, word came that Armon Binns has torn his ACL and MCL, meaning he will miss the entire season. That also means we now need to update the roster bubble.

Starter level (No Change)

Mike Wallace - Wallace still maintains the top spot, to no one's surprise. He and quarterback Ryan Tannehill seem to be starting to develop the chemistry needed for success this year.

Brian Hartline - Hartline remains number two, and will likely continue to be one of Tannehill's favorite targets. With Binns gone, Hartline is the only receiver on the roster with whom Tannehill has any chemistry from last year, which could also earn him even more targets this season.

Brandon Gibson - Gibson's hold on the number three position solidified with Binns' injury.

Reserve level

None.

Bubble level

Marvin McNutt - McNutt is the most likely to fill the first reserve spot on the depth chart. He's been having a good training camp, turning heads during the practices. He is not yet a lock for the roster, which is why he was not moved up to the reserve role, but he may be pretty close now.

Brian Tyms - Without doing much today, Tyms may have just found himself on the Dolphins' 53-man roster. After a year on the practice squad, Tyms has looked solid, but unspectacular, early in training camp. If Rishard Matthews' injury (discussed below) does keep him out for an extended period of time, Tyms should be the fifth receiver on the roster.

Jeff Fuller - At this point, your guess is as good as anyone else out there. I give the nod here to Fuller as the sixth wide receiver simply because he has been in the system (with the practice squad) for a year. I would not be surprised at all to see one of the players below jump over Fuller.

Practice squad / Who? level

Chad Bumphis / Jasper Collins / Kenny Stafford / Andrell Smith - I kept the practice squad/who level bunched because there's not a lot of separation between them. Smith was signed earlier today, likely in response to the injury to Matthews. Now, the team may be looking to one of these four to push the three guys above. All of them still have practice squad eligibility.

Injured

Armon Binns - The Dolphins claimed Binns off of waivers near the end of last season. After seeing playing time with little time to actually learn the playbook, Binns appeared set to have a breakout year in 2013. Unfortunately for him, that's off now due to the torn ACL and MCL. He was entering the final year of his contract and could have stood to see a sizable pay raise if he could play in season like he had been in training camp.

Reshard Matthews - While Matthews is not out for the season, reports on his injury (still undisclosed) are that he will be out several weeks. He was one of the top two players, with McNutt, who could have taken advantage of the Binns injury. Instead, he now has to try to get himself healthy.

What do you think the Binns injury does for Miami's wide receiver corps? Should Fuller or Tyms be considered a reserve at this point, or are they still on the bubble. What happens if Matthews is lost for more than a few weeks?

The Miami Dolphins joined the growing list of teams with at least one player already lost for the season. For Miami, that receiver appears to be wide receiver Armon Binns, who tore his ACL and MCL on Sunday.

Earlier today, we took a look at the undisclosed injuries of two Miami Dolphins wide receivers. Both Rishard Matthews and Armon Binns had been sidelined, with no official word on their status, and when, or if, they would be able to return to the team.

Injuries abound across the NFL on Saturday

Saturday was a costly day around the NFL, with multiple serious injuries. Here's a look at the top three from the day.

It appears, in the case of Binns, his return will not happen this year. According to Miami Herald reporter Barry Jackson, Binns has torn his ACL and MCL and will miss the season.

Binns had been stellar in training camp this year, and appeared to be Miami's fourth wide receiver, behind Mike Wallace, Brian Hartline, and Brandon Gibson. There was speculation that Binns would be able to beat out Gibson and claim the third slot on the depth chart if he continued to play like he had early in camp.

The receiver had to sit out a few snaps in practice on Saturday when he dove for a pass and landed awkwardly on his arm. However, he returned to practice, then was set to be a full participant in practice. However, he came up limping during one-on-one drills today and spent the rest of the practice on the sidelines with his leg wrapped.

The Dolphins currently have Marvin McNutt, Brian Tyms, Chad Bumphis, Jasper Collins, Jeff Fuller, Kenny Stafford, and Andrell Smith, along with Wallace, Hartline, Gibson, and Matthews, at wide receiver. The team will likely look to add another receiver to the roster with the loss of Binns.

No news has been released on the injury to Matthews.

Both Adam Beasley and Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald report hearing Armon Binns is out for the year with a torn ACL + MCL, despite the fact that he was able to walk off the field after suffering his leg injury earlier today. This is bad news for one of the star performers of training camp and presumed WR4 for the Dolphins this season. The hope is that Rishard Matthews (also injured, though his injury believed to be more minor), Marvin McNutt, and perhaps Brian Tyms and Jeff Fuller can step up.

What a few days ago looked like a fight to earn a roster spot for the Miami Dolphins' wide receivers could be a battle to simply stay healthy. The team appears to have two injured front runners for roster spots in Armon Binns and Rishard Matthews.

It's still early in camp, but injuries are never something you want to see. For the Miami Dolphins, two leading contenders for rotter sports seem to have been by the injury bug already. Wide receivers Armon Binns and Rishard Matthews both had to sit out at least a portion of the practice.

Binns, who appeared set to grab the fourth slot on the depth chart, missed a few snaps yesterday in practice after injuring his arm on a diving attempt at a catch. However, he returned to work yesterday, and was practicing again today until he limped off the field during one-on-one drills. He spent the rest of practice on the sidelines with his knee wrapped.

Meanwhile, Matthews missed all of practice with an undisclosed injury. According to reports, Matthews could be out for several weeks.

Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin will not discussed injured players, so the exact nature of the injuries, or how long recovery could be, is unknown at this point.

The Miami receiving corps includes presumed starters Mike Wallace, Brian Hartline, and Brandon Gibson. Behind them come Binns and Matthews, along with Marvin McNutt, Brian Tyms, Jeff Fuller, Chad Bumphis, and Kenny Stafford. The Dolphins added Andrell Smith today.

The Dolphins have also seen injuries to guard John Jerry, kicker Caleb Sturgis (groin), running back Cameron Marshall (hamstring), and cornerback Jamar Taylor (sports hernia surgery) this year. No timetable has been given for any of their returns.
