NFL Mock Draft second-round projections: Dolphins continue to build defense

NFL: 2017 NFL Draft Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Did you think mock draft season was over? Not quite yet. The first round of the 2017 NFL Draft is complete, which means it is time for a second-round mock draft. And, would you look at that? Our friend Dan Kadar has posted exactly that this morning.

Kadar’s second-round mock draft runs through several of the potential Miami Dolphins’ targets early in the round, including Colorado cornerback Chidobe Awuzie being selected by the Green Bay Packers with the first pick in the round, immediately followed by the Seattle Seahawks selecting Western Kentucky guard Forrest Lamp.

The Dolphins, however, pick up a quality option when it does roll around to them with the 22nd pick in the round, the 54th selection overall. Kadar has Miami adding North Carolina State safety Josh Jones, who has played both strong- and free-safety in college, and could give the team the flexibility to pair him with Reshad Jones and give different safety looks, with either one helping in the box while the other plays centerfield.

Adding a safety after the selection of Charles Harris in the first round gives Miami two quality defensive additions early in this year’s Draft. It is exactly what everyone thought the team would have to do this year, especially after using last year’s draft primarily on offense. It would still leave some needs to be addressed, including linebacker and guard, but it should give the team players who make an impact this year, even as they continue to develop into NFL players.
