2017 NFL Mock Draft: Seven rounds from Big Blue View

NCAA Football: Rose Bowl Game-Penn State vs Southern California Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

It is mock draft season, which means there are always new projections available to try to get an idea of who the Miami Dolphins could choose to select when the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft arrives. Every now and then, someone takes the time to put together a mock draft that does not just take a look at the first round, but at the entire seven rounds of the Draft. That was the case this week as our friend Invictus XI put together a seven-round 2017 NFL Mock Draft over on Big Blue View.

Taking a look at the Dolphins’ picks from the mock, Invictus has Miami picking:

  • 1st Round: Derek Barnett, DE, Tennessee
  • 2nd Round: Desmond King, S, Iowa
  • 3rd Round: Zach Banner, OT, USC
  • 5th Round: Jerod Evans, QB, Virginia Tech
  • 5th Round: Tanzel Smart, DT, Tulane
  • 5th Round: Jamal Carter, S, Miami
  • 7th Round: Tashawn Bower, DE, LSU

The players projected to Miami are not bad in this scenario, with the team addressing most of their needs. There is no linebacker, which is a concern, but it does give Miami a couple of younger defensive ends, as well as a safety they can develop to play next to Reshad Jones. Banner would have to play inside at guard, and he may not be able to excel there. Evans in the fifth gives the Dolphins a developmental quarterback to build into the eventual replacement for Matt Moore as the team’s second-string passer. Smart gives them a potential depth defensive tackle to rotate into the game for Ndamukong Suh and Jordan Phillips.

What do you think of the seven-round mock draft?
