The Miami Dolphins and Indianapolis Colts are scheduled for a late afternoon kickoff on Sunday, facing off in a game that could position one of them for a charge toward the postseason. Miami, coming off their bye week, looks like they are starting to get back some key pieces. Could that be enough to push them to an upset win over Indianapolis?
Both teams issued their weekly injury report on Friday. The Dolphins have ruled out wide receiver Jakeem Grant, who is expected to be placed on injured reserve after needing surgery to repair a lower-leg injury. Grant appeared to tear his Achilles, and officially the team still lists the injury as an Achilles issue, but it was not ruptured and, while surgery was still required, it is not as serious as a tear would have been.
Miami listed wide receiver Danny Amendola (hamstring), tight end A.J. Derby (foot/knee), defensive tackle Davon Godchaux (shin), tackle Ja’Wuan James (knee), guard Ted Larsen (neck), safety T.J. McDonald (knee), and wide receiver DeVante Parker (shoulder) as questionable for the game. Most of those players were limited at practice throughout the week, with McDonald upgrading to a full participant on Friday. Godchaux was added to the report on Friday after not being on it earlier in the week.
The most important part of the injury report for the Dolphins is likely who was removed from the list prior to Friday’s final publication. The team listed quarterback Ryan Tannehill as limited all week, but he is expected to start, returning to the lineup and replacing Brock Osweiler. Also coming off the report were tackle Laremy Tunsil, safety Reshad Jones, cornerback Xavien Howard, running back Kenyan Drake, guard Jesse Davis, defensive end Andre Branch, and linebacker Stephone Anthony.
The Colts ruled out tight end Ryan Hewitt with an ankle issue, center Ryan Kelly with a knee injury, and tight end Erik Swoope with a knee issue. The team also listed tight end Mo Alie-Cox on the report, categorizing him as questionable with a calf injury he sustained during the week.
