The Miami Dolphins placed running back Knowshon Moreno on injured reserve today with what they described as a "ACL injury." The move came as somewhat of a surprise after Moreno returned to the team on Sunday against the Green Bay Packers following a dislocated elbow, and there never seemed to be an injury serious enough to warrant the IR move.
Looking back at the game, however, we can see exactly when Moreno tore his ACL. With 12:46 remaining in the third quarter, the Dolphins were facing a 2nd-and-10 from the Green Bay 14-yard line. Quarterback Ryan Tannehill dropped back, faked a pass to the right, then found Moreno on a short screen pass, which Moreno turned into an eight-yard gain before being run out of bounds. As he plants his right leg just after the play, you can see the knee buckle a little, then Moreno hop and appear to waive for Lamar Miller to replace him. As he tries to walk it off, then job back to the huddle, he waves Miller back off the field and stays in for one more play, the Tannehill touchdown pass to Jarvis Landry.
Moreno was taken out of the game after that play. His season officially ended Monday morning when he was placed on IR.
