Dolphins post Hall of Fame Game injury report

The Miami Dolphins scratched several players before the start of the Hall of Fame game last night, choosing to rest players who may have minor injuries, rather than risk further complications. Today, we try to look at the players who were scratched (and the one who was injured during the game).

As the 2013 Hall of Fame Game kickoff approached, a mad list of players being scratched by the Miami Dolphins began circulating. Multiple players were being held out of the game, most of them with some sort of injury. While a lot of the injuries would not actually hold out a player from a regular season game, it made sense for the Dolphins to have the players sit this week, rather than risk making the issue worse.

But, what are the injuries? A lot of them are still undisclosed, with no reason to expect full disclosure from the team any time soon. Below, we take a quick look at who is hurt, and what is known of their injury.

Nolan Carroll - Undisclosed

Michael Clay - Undisclosed

Dannell Ellerbe - Undisclosed

Brian Hartline - Calf; Hartline sat out most of the preseason last year with a calf injury, so bringing him along slowly early in the preseason and training camp this year makes sense. He still had over 1,000 yards receiving by the end of the season, so there is little concern about his chemistry with Ryan Tannehill. If this were a regular season game, he likely would have played.

John Jerry - Knee; At this point, there's no real way to know when Jerry will return to the field. Jerry may or may not need surgery and may or may not have already had surgery. At this point, all that's really known is, something is wrong with Jerry's knee.

Lance Louis - Knee; He suffered a torn ACL last season, and is trying to rehab his way back from it. He has started to conduct drills in practice, but is still extremely limited and there's no timetable for him to be fully back practicing.

Cameron Marshall - Leg (Hamstring?); Marshall pulled up during practice a few days ago and appeared to hold his hamstring. No word on how serious the injury may be.

Rishard Matthews - Undisclosed

Jared Odrick - Groin; Odrick was one of the surprise scratches of the night. There was not a lot of indication that he was injured prior to being held out of the game with an apparent groin issue. I would imagine he will be back quickly.

Randy Starks - Undisclosed

Jamar Taylor - Sports Hernia; Taylor was held out of about a week of practice, but got back onto the field a few days ago. Holding him out of the game was likely precautionary.

Marcus Thigpen - Undisclosed

Olivier Vernon - Undisclosed

Mike Wallace - Groin; Like Hartline, this appears to be a minor injury and Wallace could have played, if this were the regular season. For now, it's more important that the Dolphins protect their investment than to have him run a few routes in the Hall of Fame Game.

And there was one reported injury during the game last night.

Pat Devlin - Hand; Devlin was forced to leave the game in the fourth quarter, with Matt Moore coming back into the contest. Devlin limped off the field, and initially it appeared trainers were working on his foot. After the game, however, the prognosis changed to a hand injury. How serious an injury is still unknown, but Devlin will (or did) have an MRI today.
