Ryan Tannehill injury headlines first Dolphins vs Patriots injury report

The Miami Dolphins and the New England Patriots are preparing to face off this weekend. In that preparation, both teams released their first injury reports of the week yesterday, with the Dolphins including a surprise player on the report - starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill.

The Miami Dolphins head north this weekend to face the New England Patriots in the first of the two annual meetings between the AFC East rivals. Yesterday, the teams released their first of three injury reports for the week, with Miami including an unexpected name on the list. Quarterback Ryan Tannehill appeared on the injury report for the second time this season, both times with injuries to his throwing shoulder.

Tannehill has been sacked an NFL high 26 times this season, including twice in the fourth quarter last week against the Buffalo Bills. The second sack included a fumble, leading to the game winning field goal from Dan Carpenter. Either during those two sacks by Mario Williams, of the three other quarterback hits during the game, Tannehill's shoulder was injured.

Given that the Dolphins' second year signal caller was only limited during yesterday's practice, and that the injury did not cause him to miss any time against the Bills, Tannehill will likely be ready to play this weekend. If he cannot go, veteran backup Matt Moore will take the snaps against the Patriots.

Along with Tannehill, the Dolphins listed linebacker Dannell Ellerbe (shoulder), wide receiver Brandon Gibson (shoulder), and tackle Bryant McKinnie (knee) as limited. Cornerback Brent Grimes (back), linebacker Koa Misi (knee), cornerback Dimitri Patterson (groin), and defensive end Cameron Wake (knee) were all listed as full participants in Wednesday's workout.

As for the Patriots, defensive lineman Tommy Kelly (knee) and running back Leon Washington (ankle) both were non-participants in practice. Wide receiver Danny Amendola (concussion/groin), running back Brandon Bolden (knee), offensive lineman Marcus Cannon (shoulder), wide receiver Julian Edelman (thigh), tight end Rob Gronkowski, tight end Michael Hoomanawanui, wide receiver Matthew Slater (wrist), cornerback Aqib Talib (hip), and defensive back Tavon Wilson (hamstring) were all limited in the Wednesday workout.

The team also listed cornerbacks Kyle Arrington (groin) and Devin McCourty (shoulder), as well as defensive lineman Rob Ninkovick (groin) on the report, but as full participants in practice.

Both teams will release their second reports later today. For the Dolphins, Thursday is their off day during the week, so the report will be an estimate of who would have done what on the day, and will likely mirror yesterday's report.
