Braxton Berrios is back with the Miami Dolphins, rejoining a roster stacked at wide receiver. He caught 27 of 33 targets last season behind Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle but now faces added competition with three-time Pro Bowl receiver Odell Beckham Jr. in the mix.

“He brings a lot and a lot of leadership as well, a lot of experience,” Berrios said of OBJ. “Big time ball, big time plays. I think the more information we can get in that room and pass around, the better off we are as a whole. Obviously, he makes some incredible plays, so we’re all looking forward to it.”

Berrios and the Dolphins agreed on a one-year $3 million deal in March. The former sixth-round pick spent four seasons with the New York Jets before landing in South Florida. Berrios helped Miami move the sticks 15 times while averaging 8.8 yards per catch with 238 receiving yards across 16 games.

“It’s about the finer details now — we know we can do it,” Berrios said of another offseason practicing Mike McDaniel’s offense. “We know we can get it done when everything is not perfect. Now it’s about trying to be perfect and seeing where that can go.

The Dolphins added a pair of rookie wide receivers Tahj Washington and Malik Washington, former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver River Cracraft is in the mix, too. Erik Ezukanma is back in action after a neck injury derailed last season. The wide receiver room is crowded and Berrios is jumping at every opportunity to hit the field.

“I think it’s important for me,” Berrios said of the opportunities at organized team activities. “I think everybody has their own views, their own battles, their own things they want to accomplish, and me like I just said about the offense, I want to be perfect.

“Even though that might not be possible, I want to be perfect in everything that we do. For me, it’s just extra reps. It’s extra reps to get better and again build chemistry and build momentum as we go into camp.”

There isn’t much left after Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle’s combined 18 targets per game and a handful of new targets like Jonnu Smith and Jaylen Wright have joined the mix. In the hope of standing out, Berrios can secure his spot on the roster by taking advantage of the new XFL-style kickoff after 41 combined punt and kick returns last season.

“I think it’ll be interesting, especially the first few weeks, to see everybody come out with their tricks,” Berrios said. “I think preseason they’re going to pop it up and let people cover and see what they have. I think Week 1 and Week 2, there’s going to be some variability there which should be exciting. I’m excited about it.”
