Dolphins sign Jason McCourty; number of DBs on team reaches eleventy billion

Oh the Miami Dolphins, they never stop. Whether it’s bringing in Malik Hooker for a visit and then subsequently releasing Bobby McCain, the Dolphins are always shifting the roster around like Hunter Long maneuvers a Rubix Cube.

The New England-Miami pipeline is as prominent as the Keystone pipeline and shows no signs of ending any time soon. Flores has a lot of history with working with Jason McCourty back in their Patriot days. I’m sure that’s going to bother the “can we stop signing ex-Patriots” crowd. For those of you in that group, I suggest taking your gripes to Brian Flores and see what he thinks about them. What’s surprising is that Jason’s twin brother, Devin, isn’t also getting signed to the Dolphins. I thought those guys had it written in their contracts that they were a package deal.

If you’re keeping score at home, the signing puts the number of defensive backs the Dolphins currently house between 15 and a number closer to what Bill Gates stands to lose in his pending divorce(I’m killing it right now are you getting this?). Obviously, that number will get slashed down to a more reasonable figure when training camp and the preseason is over. But man alive this team still is very high in the running to sign Malik Hooker meaning they love themselves some defensive backs.

Perhaps Brian Flores is looking to install an all-defensive back defense. Run your 3-4 or whatever you want but everyone is a defensive back. Sure you might get run on a bit but tell the closer defensive backs to the line of scrimmage to simply make a pile and get to 3rd and 6 or more. Then you have them right where you want them.

Can’t wait to see all the talk about that all these defensive backs signings and the drafting of Jevon Hollan is a signal that Xavien Howard might be on the way out. I don’t think that’s the case at all but with Stone Cold Brian Flores you need to know that he does what he wants when he wants.

Or, you’re going to see folks talking about that Noah Igbinoghene mustn't be exactly what Flores thought he was getting and hasn’t developed. I don’t think that’s the case either. I just think when Flores thinks he can sign a player that could help the team, he doesn’t care who’s feelings it hurts or how it looks. It’s about winning and nothing else. No time for anything else.

By the Way- Thinking about the McCourty twins got me thinking about this hilarious SNL sketch from yesteryear. I suggest watching it because it’s fantastic.
