The Dolphins weren't the only team that thought highly of Jaylen Waddle and Jaelan Phillips

New video shows that the Jacksonville Jaguars LOVED both of the Miami Dolphins‘ first-round draft picks

Throughout the offseason, the Jacksonville Jaguars have been giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at the team’s 2021 NFL draft process. It has been a fascinating series and a must-watch for all football fans. It’s also something I think the Miami Dolphins should adopt moving forward.

Now, I know what you’re thinking.

“Houtz, if you love the Jaguars so much, why don’t you marry them?”

I don’t love the Jaguars.

In fact, the only reason I’m bringing them up in the first place is that in their latest draft video, the Jacksonville Jaguars show off a portion of their draft board—revealing two very familiar names.

Jaylen Waddle and Jaelan Phillips.

(Credit Billy Marshall of Cat Scratch Reader for bringing this to our attention, in addition, to quickly grabbing a few pictures.)

As Marcus Mosher points out, the Jacksonville Jaguars had the same grade on Alabama wide receiver Jaylen Waddle (8.0) as they did on Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence. And in this draft class, there is no better company to be in.

Waddle wasn’t the only prospect the Jacksonville Jaguars thought highly of. Their 7.5 grade on Miami EDGE rusher Jaelan Phillips leads me (and others) to believe they too viewed him as EDGE 1 in this class, and rightfully so.

This also lends credibility to the report that the Miami Dolphins had Jaylen Waddle rated as the #2 player on their draft board, though we may never know the truth.

What does all of this mean?

Not a whole lot.

After all, this is only one team, and it wasn’t exactly a secret that these two players were among the very best in this class. Heck, JC himself could come down from the heavens and tell the world how great Jaylen Waddle and Jaelan Phillips graded as prospects--but until they go out and have success on the field, none of that really matters.

Nevertheless, landing your top-rated wide receiver, outside linebacker, AND safety is an impressive feat—and something Chris Grier, Brian Flores, and the rest of the Dolphins’ front office should be extremely proud of.

It also looks like the Jaguars had a 6.8 on Oregon safety Jevon Holland and Notre Dame offensive lineman Liam Eichenberg, FWIW.

What are your thoughts on the Jacksonville Jaguars having an eerily similar draft board to Chris Grier and the Miami Dolphins? Do you agree with their grades on Jaylen Waddle and Jaelan Phillips? Let us know in the comments section below!
