Well, I think I speak for many Dolphins fans in saying that we wanted Miami to take Javonte Williams with the #36 pick. But the Falcons once again stuck it to the Dolphins and traded out of the #35 pick, sending it to the Broncos. Surprisingly, Denver took a running back though they have Melvin Gordon. Maybe that’s not that surprising if you really think about it. You need two RBs in today’s league.
That left the Dolphins to make their selection.
The #Dolphins quickly turn in their pick, selecting #Oregon S Jevon Holland at No. 36.

Personally, I would have gone with Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah because I feel that’s a guy you plug in and forget about for seven years. But Jevon Holland is the exact kind of player that Stone Cold Brian Flores covets. Holland is a guy that can do multiple things meaning his versatility, which is like a drug for Flores, will be on full display in Miami.

As you can see, like his teammate Penei Sewell, Holland sat out last year. Can’t say I blame the guy due to the messed-up nature of the Pac 12 last year. He had 9 INTs in the two seasons that he did play. The guy has a nose for the ball which allows him to get his hands on the ball thus creating interceptions. That’s a great skill to have.
If you did watch that highlight tape, you saw that he also returns punts at a high level.
In the one season that Hollan majorly returned punts, he did very well.

This is fantastic because hopefully, this means that Jaylen Waddle doesn’t have to subject himself to returning kicks. I don’t care if you’re the kind of person who thinks he should. Go ask Preston Williams if he thinks he should return any form of kick or punt.
Back to Holland’s versatility. Holland is a safety but he can also cover slot receivers. That’s huge because the NFL is geared to take advantage of defenses via the slot. I know the Dolphins have Nik Needham but defensive back is a position that you can’t have enough of. Come to think of it, every position is a position you can’t have enough of.
Don’t get down about this pick. You’re probably thinking what about Brandon Jones, Rowe, and McCain. I wouldn’t be shocked if McCain gets cut when camp ends. Holland can play and will be a guy that Flores leans on due to him being able to do many things.
Since writing this, the Dolphins drafted Liam Eichenberg from Notre Dame. That’ll help the Tua and the offense. Enjoy the rest of the draft.
By the Way- I’m trying to figure out a nickname for Jevon Holland that revolved around Mr. Holland’s Opus. It’s a work in progress.
