The Miami Dolphins have made their second pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, adding Miami edge rusher Jaelan Phillips with the 18th-overall selection. The move fills a need for the Dolphins, teaming Phillips with Andrew Van Ginkel and Emmanuel Ogbah to provide pressure on opposing quarterbacks.
Phillips spent two years at UCLA before taking a year away from football, followed by a season at Miami. He recorded 89 tackles with 12.5 sacks in his collegiate career.
After adding a wide receiver with Jaylen Waddle with the sixth pick and now an edge rusher with the 18th pick, Miami heads into the second round with two more picks. They could look to add another weapon for Tagovailoa, likely a running back, or they could look to an offensive lineman to shore up protection in front of Tagovailoa, or possibly another missing piece on defense, where a linebacker could be in the cards.
The rest of Miami’s draft picks are:
Round 1, Pick 6 (6) - Jaylen Waddle, WR, Alabama
Round 1, Pick 18 (18) - Jaelan Phillips, Edge, Miami
Round 2, Pick 4 (36)
Round 2, Pick 18 (50)
Round 3, Pick 18 (81)
Round 5, Pick 12 (156)
Round 7, Pick 3 (231)
Round 7, Pick 16 (244)
