Phinsider Radio show notes: No comments, retaining Roberts, how could Miami find cap space?

Dolphins remain busy with a month remaining for the draft.

NFL: Miami Dolphins at San Francisco 49ers Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

Phinsider Radio show notes for March 24.

New England Dolphins players met with the media today and Kyle Van Noy was asked what the difference was between Flores the LB coach and Flores the HC and he said “no comment.”

  • @ZackCoxNESN: Van Noy sounds pretty motivated to face the Dolphins this season: “I know everything they do down there. It’s going to be good.”
  • @GregABedard: Don’t think I said players want out, but players are talking that it’s a bad situation. Yes, I said that.

Seems like the Dolphins are going to make players COMPETE to make the 53-man roster.

Dolphins bring back Elandon Roberts.

  • Last year’s deal was worth $2 million, can’t see it being much more than that.
  • 61 combined tackles; 1.5 sacks; 8 tackles for a loss before the season-ending knee injury against the raiders
  • HE TACKLED A DUDE THROUGH ANOTHER DUDE, Josh.
  • McKinney, Roberts, Jerome Baker, Sam Eguavoen and Calvin Munson the five guys currently looking to make the roster at inside linebacker.
  • Where did the Dolphins get the money to make this move?

The team cut Isaiah Wilson just a week after the team signed him.

  • Dolphins still lose the 2022 seventh-round pick :(
  • Team saves $1 million on the cap.
  • Videos of Wilson surfaced of him dancing on top of a car in a random parking lot.
  • I was excited to see him grow behind Jackson and Hunt.
  • Late to the physical, late to orientation and skipped two workouts he committed to.
  • Team was expected to release him before videos surfaced.
  • Maybe he just doesn’t care about football at 22 years old, maybe there are some other things going on beyond the scenes.

Back to competing for the 53-man roster, Miami’s receiver room is loaded and is only going to get more cramped from here.

  • Team re-signs Mack Hollins, caught that wild pass from Tua against the Cardinals and then the Fitzmagic play.
  • While he is a receiver, he is a big part of what Miami does on Special Teams.
  • Videos surface of Tua working out with Jakeem Grant
  • Is Flores and Grier going to make some of these decisions based on what these dudes are doing in the offseason?
  • DeVante Parker, Will Fuller, PReston Williams, Jakeem Grant, Albert Wilson, Lynn Bowden Jr., Mack Hollins, Allen Hurns, Robert Foster, Kirk Merritt and Malcolm Perry ALL under contract.
  • Kirk Merritt and Malcolm Perry to the practice squad?
  • Hard to believe the Dolphins aren’t also planning to draft a receiver early.

Where is Miami getting this cap space??

  • Team has about $10 million in space right now.
  • THESE CONTRACTS ARE TO GIVE AN IDEA OF WHAT MIAMI MAY DO, NOT WHAT WE WANT OR EXPECT THEM TO DO
  • Cutting Wilson saves nearly $3 million against the cap
  • Allen Hurns about $800,000
  • Preston Williams $850,000
  • Munson and Eugoven about $850,000 each, same with Preston Williams
  • Bobby McCainn close to $6 million
  • Jesse Davis??? $2.5 million
  • Clayton Fejedelem $2.5 million
  • Jakeem Grant almost $3 million
  • Restructuring Byron Jones can free about another $9 million, I believe.

Tua still posting jacked pictures

  • Scott Pioli, former Assistant GM in Atlanta, was on NFL Network talking about Mac Jones stock rising.
  • “what sticks out to me is how much his teammates love him”
  • Those comments from Smith and others were to clearly help Jones… not say that is the only reason they said it… but yeah

MOCK DRAFTS

  • Phinsider Radio mock drafts begin Monday
  • MEL KIPER DRAFT 3.0 WHY .0… WHO DOES HALF DRAFTS?
  1. He has Miami trading back with panthers and taking Jaylen Waddle.
  2. Smith goes to the Lions at seven.
  3. Ja’Marr Chase goes six to the eagles.
  4. Waddle could also be injury protection, in a slight sense, for Fuller.
