State of the roster post FA - OFFENSE

After an interesting Free Agency that saw many of us scratching our heads or banging on the table I wanted to share my thoughts on where our roster currently stands and where our focus should/could be in the draft.

OFF

QB - Tua, Brissett.

I liked the Brissett signing. We needed an experienced QB to back up Tua this yr. And at 5mil I'll take it (although Trubisky for 2.5mil I would of liked more. lol). I don't think we will need or add another QB for the active 53 man roster. We could bring in a camp body though.

RB - Gaskins, Brown, Ahmed & Laird.

I was a little surprised by the Brown signing, but he wasn't expensive and could provide better depth. IMO we must still draft a RB. I don't think it should be in the 1st rd. But day 2 makes the most sense. A guy like J.Williams could take over at RB1 very early in the season. I am good with a RB by committee though.

TE - Gesicki, Smythe, Shaheen.

I think this unit is set. WITH THAT SAID.. I think Pitts is absolutely in play. If we draft him, we could run a lot of 2 TE set's and take pressure off of our WR unit. Gesicki is also a FA next season. Pitts is one of a handful of ELITE talents in this draft.

WR - Parker, Fuller, Williams, Bowden..... Wilson, Grant, Hurns, Perry, Hollands & others...

We have a lot of names on this list. I think we will carry 6 on our 53. But typically #6 is more of a ST player, not on the field much for receiving. Grant should be the favorite unless he is traded for that #6 spot. I like the Fuller signing. WHEN ON THE FIELD he is a top 12 receiver in the NFL. He will help keep the Safeties back and prevent 8 man boxes. I hope we still draft a WR between the 2nd & 4th rd. I don't see the need or value in taking a WR in the 1st rd. Ideally I would like to see us draft a WR to be #5, keep Wilson because I could see him exceling in a RPO OFF and then trading Grant for a 2022 pick.

OL - T Jackson, Hunt, Pankey..... G Flowers, Kindley, Deiter..... Swing T/G Davis... C Skura

So much of this unit's success this year will be dependent on the growth of the 3 rookies from LY. We know Flowers will be the same ave G he has been the past couple seasons. Skura was an acquisition no one saw coming. He may play great or he may just keep the position until the rookie drafted is ready. Yes I do think we will draft a rookie Center or a swing G/C on day 2. We also need to add another body to this list. Teams must carry 9 OL on gameday and we only have 8 on the roster due to Wilson not working out. Our depth at T is weak (anyone trust Pankey?) and we don't have a dominate or even above ave G. This unit still needs more talent IMO. I do think Jackson & Hunt will take a big leap forward in yr 2. I'm not sold on Kindley at all. To be honest I'm not sure why so many fans like him. He was beat in the trenches often and can't get to the second level. Unless Kindley get's in much better shape, he will continue to struggle. This unit was ranked bottom 5 LY. Just adding Skura & the rookies developing WILL NOT make this a strong unit. MORE TALENT MUST BE ADDED.
