Thomas Batte Mock Draft: Post Free Agency - Part 3 of 7

As we move into the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft, the Dolphins enter with many needs filled through free agency and the first two rounds of the draft. As a result, the Dolphins can play a more BPA approach and still address its remaining holes, which mainly reside at DT and SS and possibly a RAC receiver. This part of the series will be very short due to the Dolphins only owning one pick in the third round.

Round 3: 70th Pick

Raekwon Davis DT Alabama

Three words can be used to describe Davis...BIG RUN STUFFER. At 6'7 and 315lbs Raekwon Davis is an enormous human being that just so happens to be athletically gifted and very good at stopping the run. He was once considered a first round prospect in the 2018 season, however, a drop off in his play has caused him to slide to day two projections of the draft. Miami has a serious need to stop the run and pairing Davis with Godchaux and Wilkins will give the Dolphins a perfect assortment of defensive tackles to stop opposing run games. I almost went with a Strong Safety with this pick but the surprisingly good play from Eric Rowe's transition to safety made me hold off until later in the draft for that position.

Round 3 Recap:

Although the Dolphins only made one pick, it was a good one and could prove later on to be quite the steal. Big athletic DTs are not found everywhere you look, so for the value this a great pick up to further bolster the already upgraded Miami defense. The next part of the series will consist of round four of the draft where the Dolphins look to replace long time strong safety Reshad Jones and possibly pick up a receiver who can provide RAC.
