Lets have some fun being GM for a day

Lets have some fun and play Miami’s GM. We can have some rules and be honest and no cheating.

Ok rules:

1) Sign FAs before doing draft and no switching because of what you get in the draft

2) You can sign 2 FAs that are expected to sign for $13 million or less (a list of players that cannot be signed will be given below) plus 3 FAs expected to sign for less than $5 million Take into consideration of say a small premium for signing with a rebuilding team and be conservative on expected wage. No RFA’s allowed. Any Dolphin FA you can sign no restrictions.

3) Only do 1 draft and no restarts or do-overs.

4) If you choose Tua at 5 no trades if you pass on Tua we will have a trade down with Carolina (to draft Tua) for their 3rd and exchange of Houston’s 2021 first and Carolina’s 2021 first (to assist in getting a 2021 QB if necessary) You can add the 1 player after Carolina’s 3rd round pick. No other trades allowed

5) Give the reason you signed your FA and selected the draft pick (for draft picks a short scouting report) for each one (like who else you considered but why you did what you did) plus how they fit and will be used in your D’ive/O’ive schemes.

Draft SIM to be used :https://thedraftnetwork.com/mock-draft-machine

Free Agency:

D.J. Reader: NT/DT: At 25 he has already become the best NT in the game. He will run a pretty penny but invaluable in a ¾. A massive strong NT that is a great run stopper that eats up double teams to free up others. Though he doesn’t get big sack numbers he does get a good push and shrinks the pocket keeping the QB from stepping up and feeling comfortable. Not a strong position in the draft so I will take him as 1 of my 2 big-ticket items

Joe Thuney: LG: A dependable complete LG that is only 27, hasn’t missed a game, has gotten better every year, and Flores is familiar with him. He will be a huge help to whoever becomes our LT and C. He is the 2nd of my big ticket guys that fills needs and bolsters both lines.

Jordan Howard: Workhorse RB: One of the true FA bargains this off-season. He is a powerful nasty runner that can carry the load all by himself. At 25 and haven been used sparingly last year I expect him to revert back to his years in Chicago as one of the top backs in the NFL

Jonathan Bullard: 6’3" 285 lb ¾ DE He has gotten some playing time with both the Bears and Cardinals but has just 84 T’s and 3 ½ sacks for his career but at the age of 26 there is untapped potential still there.

Karl Joseph: S: He hasn’t had great production yet some solid PFF grades every year but he has a nice skill set and is still just 26. . A cover type safety that will come at a bargain price and will be solid competition with what we currently have on the backend.

Draft:

1) ISAIAH SIMMONS: S/LB/Chess Piece: On my big board #1 player ahead of Chase Young. Tua would be the choice if he wasn’t there but this guy has no flags and the imagination runs wild on how he changes the defense. This guy can do everything a fast sideline to sideline tackler, cover TEs, RBs, in the Slot even lining up this year as an Outside CB, nose for the football, a great blitzer, and a strong leader on the field. Physically he has great length and very athletic. He will be a Safety in Flo’s defense that plays everywhere allowing some truly confusing exotic looks for the offense.

2) A.J. Epenesa: ¾ DE: I didn’t even look to see who else was available when I saw he was there. He is the perfect ¾ DE fit for us. He has length, great power, heavy hands, a strong run defender and a very good pass rusher. He is the real deal a complete ¾ DE. He will play as the ¾ DE that can move inside or stay at DE in 4 man fronts. He will be a staple of Flo's changing fronts whether a ¾ or 4/3

3) KENNETH MURRAY: ILB/OLB/Chess Piece. A favorite player of mine in this draft. I have watched every snap of his college career, see him as a top 10 pick so great value here, and I probably have him graded higher then most but watch out he is the real deal: a bigger Devin White. A true DOG leader of the defense that will be my ILB that is versatile enough to play OLB who has even put his hand in the dirt. He is a fast sideline to sideline run defender who is a very good blitzer, He can cover TEs and RBs and can be great in zone.

4) Trevon Diggs: #1 Shutdown travel CB: Another player I have graded higher then many but huge/monster value here. This was my most difficult decision to make between him, Swift (who I think is a superstar), and Zack Baun. Diggs is my #2 rated CB 1 of only 2 true shutdown CB in the draft. He has size, speed, Length, plays the ball, sticks to the WR, and gets physical with his man. He is a future big time playmaker that is a "young CB" starting his college career as a two way player at WR and CB. Only has 2 years of being strictly a CB and the sky is the limit. He will be this team’s Gilmore following around the other team’s #1 allowing X to go back to covering the opposite side using his play making skills instead of chasing a WR around the field.

5) Joshua Uche OLB/4/3 DE: Another tough choice between Dobbins, Adams, and Fromm but still a number of T’s and RB’s on the board and no team between our next pick that seems to need a QB so with back to back picks coming up I took the last Rush Backer that can play in space. A versatile athletic strong player that can hold the edge and rush the passer. At the senior bowl he showed up as an edge player that could drop back in space covering RBs and in the flat. He will be used as an end opposite Epenesa on even fronts and as a true ¾ OLB in odd fronts. He finishes off my LBer crew (Most important group in Flo’s defense) with Murray, Van G., Baker, Biegel, and McMillan who I will not resign for more than 3.5/4 mil a year as a sub-package short yardage/goal line ILB.

6) Jake Fromm: QB: (Carolina 3rd acquired in the first round trade down) Everyone that reads the board knows what I think of Fromm as my 3rd ranked QB in the draft. He is a great leader, has "IT", makes smart quick decisions, gets rid of the ball quickly, accurate, with great location. Though he does have a very average arm those things I just mention helps him overcome it, I have not seen him unable to make any throw in college and I believe with some lower body mechanics refining I believe it will improve enough. He will fit well in a run first play-action spread offense that will work the middle of the field. A nice pairing with Rosen and Fitz

7) Trey Adams: LT: With Dobbins on the board (who I think is a star) this actually was a tough decision but with signing J. Howard in FA and such a deep RB class I took my favorite value T. If not for his injury issues he is a first round player and a top tackle in this draft. An unbelievable value this late and at a position of need. He is big, athletic, strong, has length, a strong grip, and good feet. He is an excellent pass blocker and a strong run blocker, a complete steal at this point.

8) Nick Coe ¾ DE/4/3 DT. And now I finish up my DL. Long powerful versatile 290 lb. ¾ DE. Along with Wilkins, Epenesa, Bullard, and Ledbetter he finishes out the DE position with versatility. Length, strong hands and can set the edge. Versatile guy that needs refinement but has a decent ceiling. Strong bull rusher that can occupy blockers, solid run defender that has potential to get pressure on the QB with improved hands and a strong counter/inside move.

9) ALBERT OKWUEGBUNAM: TE: One of the best two-way TEs in the draft. A huge red zone threat that will pair well with Gesecki. Wanting to both run the ball and use the middle of the field he fits well and is another great value pick. He has huge potential as a complete TE and a seem threat that knows how to use his 6’5" 255 lb. body to help move the chains and in the end zone. Raw with a high ceiling and fits in with what we want to do offensively.

10) MICHAEL ONWENU: RG: Massive, devastating power blocker, nasty, good feet, and athletic for a 350+ lb. man. He is a bigger, stronger Richie Incognito that can blow open running lanes and beat you up in a phone booth. He is a solid pass blocker but doesn’t hold his pass rusher all day long. Fits in well in a quick passing attack. Great value once again showing the depth of this OL class

11) Jake Hanson: C: Lots of good OL talent on board but here is our future starting C. I do not know how he is still available as he is one of the better C’s in the draft. Been a long time starter on a very good Oregon OL that had not missed a game until the end of his senior season. A technician that uses his hands well, can move laterally, a leader of the OL that communicates well, and very durable.... Value Value Value

12) Calvin Throckmorton: RT, G, C: The OL position is now stacked getting Hansen’s teammate at Oregon a guy that has played RT, C, and both G positions. He is a Davis type that could be a starter at G and maybe even RT but at a minimum he will be a great 6th OLman that will be invaluable allowing another position/STer to be active on Sundays. Another strong nasty run blocker with some movement skills but does have stone feet at times.

13) JOSHUA KELLEY: RB: RBs and WRs galore still on the board and would pick a couple each as UDFAs. Really showed his all-around skillset during senior bowl practices and in the game. He’s 215 lb. power runner with some wiggle, good vision, balance, some nastiness, and can break a big run here and there. Showed he has hands senior bowl week and will be a better pass catcher in the NFL then how he was used at UCLA. Needs to attack more in pass blocking but has the size to do well there. With him and Howard we would wear a DL down to the point of having to sport oxygen masks in the 4th quarter.

Wow a deep draft class this year and I got to draft defense early and hard because of the OL depth. With this draft I will need to eventually get a versatile Safety (Richard LeCounte) that Flo can trust to put on a deep island by himself so that he can use Simmons in the many ways that Flo will. We might need to get either another ILB (Micah Parsons another versatile STUD)) or an edge setter with cover abilities opposite Uche/Van G/Biegel on the outside. Fill good about my DL now and could always use another CB especially if X’s knees are not going to hold up all season long. Another shutdown CB ( Patrick Surtain II better than Okudah ) and this defense will be great. Added a lot to the OL, a couple of good RBs and a complete TE to go along with Fromm. Might need to get another T (Trey Smith) this is the guy to watch next yr if he stays healthy a top 5/10 pick) next year to replace Davis if someone other than Adams doesn't develop, a stud RB (C.J. Verdell) and another WR (Tamorrion Terry) while being semi-prepared to add a 2021 QB if need be. I think I had one hell of a start to this rebuild which put us ahead of schedule. Though thinking about it I violated one of my own rules and probably should have taken Swift (a top 10 prospect) over Joshua Uche in spite of the fact rush backers are harder to find. What do you think of my GMing? And post your own
