The Miami Dolphins selected Alabama defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick with the 11th overall selection in the 2018 NFL Draft. The move gives the team a free safety who has the ability to play all over the field including cornerback, linebacker, and center field. He can cover tight ends and he should immediately improve the Dolphins in the AFC East when they face Rob Gronkowski twice a year.
The Dolphins will probably also look for ways to get Fitzpatrick on the field along with Reshad Jones and T.J. McDonald, providing a three-safety formation, with Fitzpatrick filling the “big nickel” role we used to see from Michael Thomas.
