The Miami Dolphins announced the signing of free agent offensive lineman Hroniss Grasu on Wednesday. The move provides the team with depth as center Jake Brendel was moved back to injured reserve in the corresponding roster move.
Grasu was waived late last month by the Baltimore Ravens after appearing three games including one start, primarily working as a reserve guard. He joined the NFL in 2015 as a third-round draft choice of the Chicago Bears, where he worked as a backup center. He has 17 career appearances with 13 starts, 12 of those at center with the Bears.
Brendel began this season on injured reserve with a calf issue. He was one of Miami’s two authorized activations from the IR, playing in four games with three starts this season. He has played both left guard and center for Miami this season. Brendel started his NFL career as an undrafted free agent signed by the Dallas Cowoys in 2016 before moving to Miami’s practice squad for the 2016 season. In 2017, Brendel appeared in all 16 games for the Dolphins.
