NFL: Buffalo Bills at Miami Dolphins Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

The Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills are underway in the first of two meetings between the clubs this year.

First Quarter

The Bills won the toss and deferred to the second half. Miami will receive.

Dolphins first possession. Miami started where they typically begin, feeding Frank Gore. Ryan Tannehill then opened up the passing game, finding DeVante Parker for nine yards. After a one-yard loss from Gore, Tannehill looked for Kenny Stills for 11 yards, then Brice Butler for five yards. After an incomplete pass was penalized for roughing the passer, Miami moved to the Bills 33-yard line with a 1st-and-10. A four-yard run from Drake was then followed by a 10-yard run from Bolden. A one-yard gain from Gore was followed by an incomplete pass. Then Tannehill looked across the middle for Parker, who went up high for the 18-yard touchdown.

Dolphins 7-0.

Bills first possession. LeSean McCoy picked up five yards, then four yards on the first two plays. Then Josh Allen ran for two yards. Allen was incomplete on first down, followed by a Chris Ivory run for four yards. Allen was incomplete looking deep on third down and Buffalo punted, with former Dolphins punter Matt Darr now kicking for the Bills.

Dolphins second possession. Miami started the drive with a Tannehill read option for a three-yard loss. After an offsides penalty on Buffalo, Miami lost yards on two straight sacks from Tannehill, including one that nearly resulted in a safety. The Bills pressured Matt Haack, with the ball nearly blocked before a punt to the 50-yard line.

Bills second possession. Allen threw a pass to McCoy on first down that looked like a screen pass with two players in the area, but Miami’s defense was all over it for a six-yard loss. Allen was then incomplete looking for Kelvin Benjamin, with Minkah Fitzpatrick nearly coming away with an interception. Allen was then incomplete on third down, with Jerome Baker making a great read to come back tot he running back and shut down an outlet pass. The Bills then punted, with Kenny Stills nearly fumbling away the return.

Dolphins third possession. Gore picked up six yards on first down, then Tannehill had his pass batted by Jordan Phillips - the former Dolphins defensive tackle - for an incomplete pass. Tannehill looked deep for Kenyan Drake on a pass down the sideline, with Bills safety Jordan Poyer making a great play to break up the pass and lead to a Miami punt.

Bills third possession. Robert Quinn blew up the offensive line on first down to stop McCoy for a two-yard loss. On second down, Allen ran for nine yards, then McCoy bounced outside for seven yards.

End first quarter. Dolphins 7-0.

Second Quarter

Bills third possession (continued). McCoy picked up 12 yards to start the second quarter. Allen then picked up 11 yards on a scramble. Ivory ran for no gain before an Allen incomplete pass. On 3rd-and-10 from the Miami 18, the pass was incomplete, but Fitzpatrick was called for pass interference and the Bills were given a 1st-and-Goal from the Miami four. McCoy ran for a one-yard loss. After a run from Allen into the endzone, a holding penalty backed up the Bills. Allen was then flushed to his right and found Zay Jones for a 15-yard touchdown. Cameron Wake was called for roughing the passer on the touchdown pass. Buffalo missed the extra point, wide left.

Dolphins 7-6.

Dolphins fourth possession. The Dolphins started at the 14 yard line after a short kick from the 50-yard line for the Bills. Drake picked up two yards, then another one yard. Tannehill was sacked by Lorenzo Alexander on third down, with Jesse Davis appearing to completely miss the block and let a free rusher in to the quarterback. Miami punted.

Bills fourth possession. McCoy was stopped for a three yard loss on first down, then Ivory fumbled - barely being recovered by Buffalo - for a four-yard loss. Allen found Benjamin for 15 yards, bringing up 4th-and-2. After trying to draw Miami offsides. The Bills punted.

Dolphins fifth possession. Tannehill found Parker for 10 yards on first down, then back-to-back holds, one on Ted Larsen and one on Jesse Davis, backed up Miami into a 2nd-and-20. After an incomplete pass, Tannehill found Drake for 10 yards, leading to a punt.

Dolphins sixth possession. The Bills muffed the return and Miami recovered to keep the ball, now at the Bills 36-yard line. Tannehill connected with Butler for 14 yards, then offsetting penalties, with Jake Brendel called for the hold while Harrison Phillips tripped Gore, reset the play. Tannehill was incomplete looking to the corner of the endzone for Stills before Drake picked up eight yards, setting up 3rd-and-2 at the 14. After the two-minute warning, a false start on Davis backed up Miami again. Davis just has had a miserable first half. Tannehill found Gore on a slant for ten yards, leading to a first down at the nine. Tannehill then found Parker for six yards, bringing the ball to the three. After Miami lined up in the Wildcart with Kalen Ballage, the Bills called timeout. Tannehill then found Drake on the touchdown pass.

Dolphins 14-6.

Bills fifth possession. The Bills came out looking to kill the clock, while Miami started using their timeouts to conserve the clock and potentially get the ball back. Marcus Murphy picked up seven yards, then Allen found Charles Clay for nine yards. After a five-yard penalty for a false start on Buffalo, McCoy picked up 18 yards. Allen then found Isaiah McKenzie for 19 yards. With the clock running out, Allen looked to the endzone, but Xavien Howard came away with the pick and ended the half.

End first half. 14-6.

Third Quarter

The Bills receive the second-half kick.

Bills sixth possession. Buffalo came out of the halftime break and immediately started moving the ball. McCoy picked up four yards, then three yards, before Allen picked up 17 yards. Ivory added three yards before another Allen scramble picked up 10 yards. Allen then connected with Patrick DiMarco for 38 yards. McCoy picked up one yard at the Dolphins’ 18-yard line, followed by a three yard pass to McCoy, with Howard shutting the play down immediately after the catch. Allen then threw incomplete before a Stephen Hauschka 32-yard field goal.

Dolphins 14-9.

Dolphins seventh possession. Gore picked up eight yards on first down, the Butler caught a pass for three yards and a first down on the next play. Then Tannehill found Kenny Stills for four yards. The drive stalled after that, however, with no gain from Ballge on second down. After an incomplete pass with offsetting penalties, Miami got a second shot at 3rd-and-6, with Tannehill looking deep for Parker, but he was hit as he tried to throw and the ball fell incomplete. Miami punted.

Bills seventh possession. Buffalo started at their own four-yard line after Matt Haack coffin cornered the kick. Then a false start backed the Bills up to the two. McCoy picked up one yard on the run up the middle. McCoy rushed again on second, but Kiko Alonso blew it up for a one-yard loss. On 3rd-and-12, Allen was pushed to his left in the endzone and found Jones deep for 22 yards and a first down. Allen then threw incomplete before a three-yard run by McCoy. On 3rd-and-7, Allen was flushed by the pass rush, with a hold called by declined after an incomplete pass.

Dolphins eighth possession. Gore picked up two yards to start the drive, then was stopped for no gain. On 3rd-and-8, Tannehill looked toward Parker, but the ball was knocked down at the line of scrimmage and Miami punted on the three-and-out.

Bills eighth possession. McKenzie picked up three yards on the short pass, then Alonso was called for a helmet-to-helmet sit on the receiver. Allen was incomplete on the new first down, then Ivory ran for no gain. Allen looked deep for Benjamin, but Howard stepped in between and came up with his second interception of the game.

Dolphins ninth possession. Tannehill gave the ball right back to the Bills on the next play, however, as he looked deep toward Stills only to have the ball picked off.

Bills ninth possession. Allen ran for 28 yards on the first-down play.

End third quarter. Dolphins 14-9.

Fourth Quarter

Bills ninth possession (continued). Allen found Benjamin for five yards, then picked up 12 yards on the ground. McCoy was stopped for no gain on the 1st-and-10 from Miami 38 yard line play, but Howard was called for a facemask and the Bills jumped to the Miami 23. Allen then ran for seven yards. After an illegal block on the Bills backed them up to 2nd-and-12 from the Miami 25, with Allen finding Jones across the middle for the touchdown then a successful two-point conversion.

Bills 17-14.

Dolphins tenth possession. Tannehill found Butler for three yards on first down. On a pay action pass, Tannehill found Stills for the first down on a nine yard pass. Drake picked up 20 yards. Drake lost four yards on the next play, but Jordan Phillips was called for taunting and Miami moved up to the Buffalo 11. After Ballage lost two yards, Tannehill laid a ball up to the back corner of the endzone, with Stills able to go up between Carlos Hyde and Jordan Poyer and come down with the score.

Dolphins 21-17.

Bills tenth possession. Allen found Jones short for a five yard gain, then a Andre Branch offsides gave the Bills a free first down. Allen looked deep for Robert Foster, who had beaten Howard, but overthrew the pass on what should have been a touchdown. An offensive holding penalty backed up the Bills, but Allen picked up 25 yards on a scramble. Then he did it again for 26 yards. Ivory then rushed for one yard before the pass rush finally started having an impact. Bobby McCain blitzed and got to Allen for the first sack on the drive, then Robert Quinn got to him on the next play, coming up with the strip sack then Cameron Wake tackled Wyatt Teller who picked up the loose ball, leading to a field goal attempt - which was wide right and Miami survived giving up the long runs to Allen.

Dolphins eleventh possession. The Dolphins were unable to do anything with their drive as they looked to kill the clock. Drake picked up nothing on first don, then Tannehill was able to find Nick O’Leary for nine yards, but he was pushed out of bounds. On 3rd-and-1, Ballage took the Wildcat play for a three-yard loss and Miami had to punt.

Bills eleventh possession. Allen connected with Foster for 27 yards on first down, then McCoy for 11 yards on the second play. On the third play of the drive, Allen found McKenzie for 23 and suddenly a drive that started at their own 10-yard line now had Buffalo at the Miami 29. A screen pass to McCoy picked up four. A false start backed up the Bills, then the Dolphins pass rush forced a duck to fall incomplete. After a pass that was ruled a catch at the two, the refs overturned the call and the Bills faced 4th-and-11 from the 29.

Dolphins twelfth possession. Tannehill knees.

Final. Dolphins 21-17.
