The Miami Dolphins have kicked off their Week 9 contest against the New York Jets, looking to complete the season sweep of their AFC East rivals. The field at Hard Rock Stadium was the pre-game story following a downpour last night during the Duke-Miami college game at the site. The field passed the NFL’s pre-game inspection, so now that the action has begun, we will see if the grounds crew was able to get it back to a condition that can withstand another game.

Throughout the game, you will be able to keep up with all the action and the scores here in our live updates. If you want to join in with your fellow Dolphins fans in a live chat throughout the game, you can follow that link.

Go Dolphins!

First Quarter

The Dolphins won the toss and elected to receive.

Dolphins first possession. Miami started with a 26-yard pass from Brock Osweiler to Danny Amendola. After that, however, the drive stalled with Frank Gore picking up five yards, then an incomplete pass, and a sack with an eight-yard loss. Miami punted.

Jets first possession. The Jets went three-and-out on their possession, with Sam Darnold finding tight end Eric Tomlinson for six yards, then Jermaine Kearse for three yards. On 3rd-and-1, the Dolphins defense, led by Akeem Spence, T.J. McDonald, and Kiko Alonso, stuffed Isaiah Crowell for a one-yard loss.

Dolphins second possession. Gore picked up one yard on first down, then Osweiler overthrew Amendola on a deep shot. Osweiler connected on a short crossing pattern targeting DeVante Parker, who was stopped a yard short. Miami went for it on fourth down, with Gore picking up two to convert. Gore then picked up six yards, with Kenyan Drake then adding three yards on a pass from Osweiler. Gore lost three yards on 3rd-and-1, and Miami punted.

Jets second possession. Crowell picked up three yards on first down, then an end-around run from Anderson picked up just one yard after Cameron Wake stayed home and prevented the play from turning up field. On third down, the Dolphins were able to pressure Darnold, leading to a dump off and a second-straight three-and-out.

Dolphins third possession. Jakeem Grant made a nice cut on the punt return and Miami started at their own 40 yard line. The drive started with a two-yard run from Gore. The Dolphins appeared to pick up the first down on a 10-yard screen pass catch and run from Parker, but offensive pass interference was called on Amendola for blocking before the pass and Miami was forced into a 2nd-and-18. After a five yard gain from Gore, Osweiler was flushed from the pocket and threw the pass into the stands to bring up a Miami punt on a three-and-out.

Jets third possession. The Jets started the drive with a 28 yard gain as Darnold finessed the ball right over Alonso’s outstretched arms and dropped it into Chris Herndon. Crowell then picked up three yards and nine yards before Darnold threw the ball straight to Alonso, who picked off the pass and then was hit late after running out of bounds, giving Miami the ball and an extra 15 yards.

Dolphins fourth possession. Gore picked up 8 yards to end the quarter.

End 1st Quarter. Tied 0-0.

Second Quarter

Dolphins fourth possession (continued). Miami broke out the Wildcat to start the quarter, with Kalen Ballage taking the snap and gaining 13 yards - but a holding call on Ted Larsen backed up the Dolphins. Drake picked up two yards on 1st-and-2, then Osweiler found Amendola for four yards before Drake picked up five yards. Jason Sanders came on for the 43-yard field goal attempt, knocking it straight through the uprights.

Dolphins 3-0.

Jets fourth possession. Elijah McGuire picked up six yards on firs down, then a false start backed up New York. Cameron Wake finally got to a quarterback, sacking Darnold for a 10-yard loss. McGuire picked up 14 yards on 3rd-and-19 before another three-and-out punt.

Dolphins fifth possession. Osweiler missed a wide open Parker on first down, throwing behind the receiver as he crossed the field on a play where Parker likely would still be running - the receiver twisted and got his hands on the ball, but could not bring it in. Gore picked up three yards on second down, then Osweiler scrambled for six yards, coming up just short after replay found he did not get the first down. Miami punted after the three-and-out.

Jets fifth possession. Darnold threw a miserable interception on first down, the Crowell picked up two yards. Darnold connected with Anderson on 3rd-and-8 for two yards, and the Jets punted on another three-and-out.

Dolphins sixth possession. Osweiler threw to Drake for seven yards, then the running back picked up two yards on second down. Osweiler connected with Amendola for six yards and a new first down on third. On another Wildcat play, Ballage was stopped for a two-yard loss. Osweiler found Drake on an out route from the slot, picking up seven yards. Osweiler then threw towards a covered Jakeem Grant, trying to fit the ball through three defenders, who knocked down the pass. The offense initially stayed on the field on 4th-and-3, then a timeout was called by the Dolphins. After the time out, Osweiler found a wide open Drake for the first down. Osweiler then walked into a sack before Gore picked up seven. Osweiler found an open Grant on a crossing route to convert for the first down, picking up 16 yards and leading into the two-minute warning. Gore picked up one yard on first down, then broke a tackle on a swing pass to gain six yards. Sanders converted on the 27-yard field goal attempt.

Jets ninth possession. The Dolphins appeared to stop Crowell in the backfield, but he broke the tackle, bounced outside, and picked up 12 yards on first down. He then gained two yards on the next play. Andre Branch appeared to get a sack on Darnold, but he was called for a facemask. Then Raekwon McMillan blew up a dump-off pass only to also be called for a facemask, with Miami now giving up two quick 15-yard penalties. McGuire was stopped for a five-yard loss after the penalties.
