Would Alex Boone Fit With The Dolphins?

The Miami Dolphins are set to begin the 2017 season with two unheralded players competing for the starting left guard spot. That scenario could change, however, as veteran interior lineman Alex Boone was surprisingly cut by the Vikings over the weekend.

While the the Dolphins haven't been directly linked to Boone at this point, the former Ohio State standout has made it known that he wouldn't be opposed to continuing his professional career in Miami.

Boone reached out to Joe Schad of the Palm Beach Post after being released from Minnesota, and he made it clear that he would be interested in playing for the Dolphins under coach Adam Gase.

Miami's potential interest wouldn't be a surprise, as the injury to Ted Larsen has created uncertainty around how to fill the vacancy left behind. Jesse Davis and Anthony Steen are the likely candidates to start at guard, but neither player has the experience that Boone possesses.

Boone went from being undrafted in 2009 to starting every game for the 49ers in their march to the Super Bowl in 2012. He has started in 73 regular season games in his career, and has appeared as a starter in eight playoff contests. That level of experience would only trail center Mike Pouncey and guard Jermon Bushrod on the Dolphins starting offensive line.

Along with his solid NFL experience, Boone also has a relationship with a member of Miami's coaching staff. While in San Fransisco, Boone played under current offensive line coach Chris Foerster.
