The Miami Dolphins will be making their 2017 season debut this weekend when they take the field to face the freshly-relocated Los Angeles Chargers. With kickoff rapidly approaching, let's take a look at what the experts are saying about Sunday's contest.
David Steele - Sporting News
Prediction: Chargers win 25-19
Steele's analysis:
Besides being one of two games featuring teams with late starts to their season, this is one of two home stadiums officially debuting. This one is the Chargers … well, cozy StubHub Center. Also new in this game: Dolphins starter Jay Cutler. He’ll at least be as much of a challenge to the Chargers’ defense as Trevor Siemien was, for what that’s worth.
Elliot Harrison - NFL.com
Prediction: Chargers win 28-24
Harrison's analysis:
While I think Jay Ajayi will produce Sunday, I like the Chargers DBs to rebound against Miami wideouts. The Fins' pass catchers need more time with their new quarterback in real games.
Chris Simms - Bleacher Report
Prediction: Dolphins win 27-24
Simms' analysis:
Ultimately, though, a lot could come down to the fact the Chargers are coming off a very late Monday night game, while the Dolphins have had extra time to prepare. This is a big advantage for Jay Cutler and Adam Gase, who have had an extra week to add some wrinkles to their offense.
James Walker - ESPN
Prediction: Dolphins win 20-17
Walker's analysis:
The Dolphins are one of two teams yet to play a regular-season game because of Hurricane Irma. First-game jitters could be an issue, but it also means they are healthy and well-rested. The team went out west nine days early to prepare for this game. Look for the Dolphins to take advantage of these factors against the Chargers, who are coming off a short week.
