Three of the Miami Dolphins’ 2016 captains retained the leadership position when the team selected captains for the 2017 season. Defensive end Cameron Wake, center Mike Pouncey, and special teams captain Michael Thomas all come back with the C on their chests this year, adding another filled in star to the patch. Joining them this year will be defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh and wide receiver Kenny Stills.
The two new additions replace quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who is on injured reserve for the season with a knee injury, and safety Reshad Jones.
Wake, Pouncey, and Thomas do not come as a surprise. Suh has been working to be move vocal with the team, taking on more of a leadership role over the past couple of years with the Dolphins, and that appears to have elevated him into the captain position. Stills has been seen as a leader in the Dolphins’ locker room, especially among the wide receivers.
