The New England Patriots may have lost their top receiver on Friday when Julian Edelman had to be carted off the field. The team reportedly believes the injury is a torn ACL, which would take Edelman off the field for the season. Initial reports said an MRI would be conducted on Sunday, but it was later updated to Saturday for the test.
From Pats Pulpit, the injury occurred as Edelman ran following a reception, attempting to cut around a defender:
Edelman, entering his ninth season in the league, has caught 425 passes for 4,540 yards in his career, with 24 touchdowns. He caught 98 passes last season for 1,106 yards with three scores.
The Patriots have receivers Brandin Cooks, Malcolm Mitchell, Chris Hogan, Danny Amendola, K.J. Maybe, Matthew Slater, Tony Washington, Austin Carr, Cody Hollister, and Devin Lucien on the roster, in addition to Edelman.
