Miami Dolphins running back Jay Ajayi left today’s training camp practice after taking a hit from safety T.J. McDonald. It was the first day of full pads and hitting for the Dolphins. Ajayi was led off the field by trainers.
After practice, head coach Adam Gase told the media that Ajayi was being evaluated for a concussion.
Heading into his third year in the league, Ajayi comes into this season as the unquestioned starter for the Dolphins for the first time in his career. Last season, after not traveling with the team in Week 1 and not establishing his role as the premier back on the roster until a quarter of the way through the season, Ajayi tallied 1,272 yards on 260 carries (4.9 yards per attempt average) with eight touchdowns. He also caught 35 passes for 151 yards. Ajayi was named to the Pro Bowl for the first time in his career.
