The Miami Dolphins struggled against the run last year, with the defense too often being run over repeatedly throughout the season. To fix the 30th ranked run defense from 2016, the Dolphins have looked to revamp their linebacker corps with Lawrence Timmons and (potentially) rookie Raekwon McMillan, along with adding a run-support defensive end in William Hayes. They are also looking for defensive tackle Jordan Phillips to take the next step in his development as he becomes a starter next to Ndamukong Suh. The team will also (potentially) get back linebacker Koa Misi, who is strong against the run and can be an asset either as a starter or as a rotational player.
But, none of those are the biggest addition the Miami Dolphins will have against the run in 2017.
Reshad Jones is.
Miami’s strong safety, who plays like a linebacker when he steps up into the box and seems to always around the ball no matter where it is on the field, missed 10 games last year with a shoulder injury. The Dolphins defense needs Jones, and it took a serious hit last year when he went down. He knows the defense, he knows how to get players into position, and he knows where he needs to be to make every tackle.
The Dolphins have a lot of fun players to watch - like Jarvis Landry, Jay Ajayi, and Cameron Wake - but this year, it might be the year to watch Jones. He is going to be on a mission to prove he is the best safety in the league, and it is going to be exciting to watch. Reshad Jones makes all the difference to the Miami Dolphins’ defense - and he is definitely a player to watch this season.
