This may be one of my favorite questions in The Phinsider 30-day challenge, mainly because there is not one obvious answer anymore. No longer are the Dolphins a team with only one or two players who could fulfill today’s challenge question, but rather a team that has several players who fit.
The 30-day challenge is our way to get to know some of your thoughts on the Miami Dolphins. We are asking a question every day for 30 days, with the goal of getting all of our readers involved in the discussion. If you haven’t ever posted a comment on the site before - now would be a great time to get in here and join us.
Today’s question is not about the best player for the Dolphins, but rather your favorite player. Maybe those are one and the same for some people. but for others, it can be a completely different player. A favorite player could be someone who brings that special spark, someone who did something that made a memory for you, or it could be the player you want to see with the ball (or getting to the ball on defense) because of their talent. Favorite is obviously subjective, and the Dolphins have a bunch of answers that make a ton of sense.
Maybe your favorite player is Cameron Wake. Or Jay Ajayi . Or Jarvis Landry . Or Reshad Jones . Or Ryan Tannehill . Or Kenny Stills . Or Ndamukong Suh . Or...
My favorite player is not a starter on offense or defense, but he does have a captain’s “C” on his chest. Reserve safety and special teams ace Michael Thomas has found a way to become a favorite, despite not being listed as a top member of the defensive depth chart. He is a do-everything guy for the team. He gives everything he has on special teams, plus is willing to play wherever and whenever he is needed on defense. He has said he sees himself as a nickel cornerback, but the Dolphins like him as a safety, and he is absolutely willing to do that.
Plus, he has the memory option in his favor. That interception of Tom Brady in Thomas’ first game, having joined the Dolphins just three days prior, will be a classic moment forever. And, that’s not even mentioning the pass breakup he had just before the pick. That was also the first time I had taken my son to a Dolphins home game, and there was no better way to lock him into being a Dolphins fan for life than having the stadium rocking as Thomas did his thing.
I love Landry, who is obviously the spark that gets the entire team going, and he is clearly a fan favorite. Ajayi with the ball in his hands is fun to watch - closing in on Ricky Williams levels of fun to watch. Wake is an obvious favorite and someone who you are watching on nearly ever snap, hoping he can make Tom Brady into Sad Brady. But, there is something special about seeing Thomas out there on the field for me.
Your turn. Who is you current favorite Miami Dolphins player?
