NFL 2017 Top 100 Players: Jarvis Landry leaps up list

Jarvis Landry has to update the ranking in his locker.

He is not number 98 any more. Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jarvis Landry, who tapped his 2016 NFL Top 100 Players list ranking to his locker last year as a reminder of how much better he wanted to be, will have to update the number this year after moving up the board. And, it was not exactly a small move.

Landry jumped from 98th in 2016 to 42nd this year.

“When you turn the film on, he’s always around the ball,” Buffalo Bills turned New England Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore said of Landry in the NFL Network video announcing the ranking. “His yards after catch. He’s a physical receiver. He’s most dangerous when he gets the ball. He’s hard to tackle.”

Landry was selected to his second straight Pro Bowl after last season and is tied with Odell Beckham Jr., his LSU teammate and roomate, for the NFL record for most receptions in a player’s first three years. In 2016, he recorded 94 receptions for 1,136 yards with four touchdowns.

Dolphins safety Michael Thomas weighed in on Landry’s ranking, saying in the video, “Man, you’re talking about Juice, like being able to stop on a dime, and the cuts he makes, he has guys just all over the field just trying to figure out angles to get him down. But at the same time, you can’t just worry about him juking you. Juice will run over you too.”

Landry has become a fan favorite because of that desire to not just make a reception, but to cut it back, turn it into extra yards, then run through someone before he is tackled. You might stop Juice from scoring, but you are going to feel it the next day.

Landry is the fourth player from the Dolphins to make the 2017 Top Players list, joining defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, defensive end Cameron Wake, and running back Jay Ajayi. You can check out the NFL Network video of Jarvis Landry’s Top 100 Player ranking here.

You can check out Landry on NFL Network after being named the 42nd player on the list here, including him not happy with the 56 position jump and Ike Taylor comparing Juice to Hines Ward.
