We have reached the end of the three-day 2017 NFL Draft, but that does not mean the rookie acquisition has come to an end. The undrafted free agent signing frenzy is now underway, with any player who was not selected is free to sign with any team in the league. The phone calls started during the seventh round, with teams letting agents know that, should the player not be selected, the team was interested in signing him. The actual signing may not happen for a couple of days, but agreements to terms will begin immediately.
Of course, that is part of the problem as well. “Agreeing to terms” and “signed” are two completely different things. Until a team officially announces the signing, things can change - and sometimes do. Players have been on planes in route to a city to sign with a team, when another team has swooped in with a better offer and a better situation, so the player decides to not sign and go to another team. It will happen this year, and it will confuse everyone , but it is the nature of the undrafted free agency period.
We will keep you as up-to-date as possible with all of the rumors, speculation, “agreements,” and signings for the Miami Dolphins. We will update again if needed when a rumored player ends up joining another team.
