Dolphins rumored to be in Dont’a Hightower sweepstakes

NFL: Super Bowl LI-New England Patriots vs Atlanta Falcons Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

This is where free agency gets fun. Are the Miami Dolphins interested in a player? Are they actually in the chase? Are they being leaked as a way to drive up the price from another team? No one actually knows until pen hits paper, and sometimes not even then. This could be the case in the idea of the Dolphins being interested in New England Patriots linebacker Dont’a Hightower.

Miami needs linebacker help, and everyone knows it. Could they be in the hunt for Hightower, or could they be in the hunt for Hightower according to an agent? Hightower would make a lot of sense for Miami, but he would also be very expensive. Reports have indicated he is already expected to make over $10 million per year, and that may still be a low estimate. He would not be cheap.

However, Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald seems to think Miami is involved. The Miami Herald’s Armando Salguero seems to think there is no chance at all for Hightower to end up in Miami:

Which is right? One? Both? Neither? Who knows at this point.
