Dolphins tender Damien Williams, restructure Nick Williams contract

NFL: Arizona Cardinals at Miami Dolphins Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

The Miami Dolphins have announced the playing of an original round/low tender on running back Damien Williams and an extension for defensive end Nick Williams. Both players were scheduled to be free agents when the signing period opens at 4pm ET today.

Damien Williams, as a tendered restricted free agent, will still be allowed to negotiate a new contract with another team if he chooses, but Miami will have the right to match that contract.

The announcement also included the previously reported low tender on safety Michael Thomas and first-round tender on linebacker Kiko Alonso.

Damien Williams was signed by the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent in 2014. He has played in 47 games over three seasons, recording 87 rushing attempts for 296 yards with three touchdown. He also has 65 receptions for 578 yards with five touchdowns. Williams also has worked as a punt returner for the team, with 29 returns for a 20.4 yard average.

Nick Williams joined Miami mid-season in 2016, playing in five games and recorded two tackles. He also played five games with the Kansas City Chiefs last year, recording five tackles. He initially joined the league as a seventh-round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2013.
