The Miami Dolphins are scheduling a free agent visit with linebacker Lawrence Timmons, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. Fowler adds that Timmons “has Florida ties and Miami needs inside linebacker help.” The visit would occur after the new league year, and free agency, begins at 4pm ET Thursday.
Timmons was a first-round draft choice of the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2007, spending all ten seasons of his career with the club. He was a 2014 Pro Bowl selection and has played in every game over the past seven seasons. Last year, he recorded 114 tackles, two interceptions, five passes defensed, one forced fumble, and 2.5 sacks.
If Miami were to sign Timmons, it would likely mean Kiko Alonso, who is also scheduled to be a free agent but is said to be working on a new contract with the Dolphins, would move to an outside role.
The details of exactly when the meeting would occur were not reported.
