The Super Bowl is about more than just the two teams - in the 2017 edition, the New England Patriots and the Atlanta Falcons - playing for the right to be declared champions and raise the Lombardi Trophy. The commercials have become their own must-watch event, as has the halftime show. This year, Lady Gaga will take the stage at the center of NRG Stadium in Houston during the mid-game intermission.
This year’s performance likely will not reach the level of the January 31, 1993 show at the Rose Bowl when Michael Jackson took the stage. That performance was so big, Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Irvin sneaked out of the locker room just to watch the show. There is also the incredible Prince performance in the rain in Miami ten years ago (with the FAMU Marching 100 - because I would be remiss if I didn’t point out they were out there in the rain too). While it will be hard to top those halftime shows, Lady Gaga should be able to put on a memorable event.
Pepsi, the annual sponsor of the haltime show, published several behind the scenes videos of Lady Gaga’s preparations for the concert, as well as some of the Super Bowl Opening Night conversations about the show.
