Tonight’s Monday Night Football game features your Miami Dolphins who travel to North Carolina to take on the Carolina Panthers. Carolina enters the evening with a fairly solid 6 and 3 record but must continue to win in order to keep pace with their division leaders, the New Orleans Saints who have now ripped off 7 wins in a row. A win tonight would leave Carolina a half a game back of the Saints having the same number of wins but also one more loss on the year. The Saints also hold the current tiebreaker between the two teams having won their first head to head match-up this season.
Carolina kicked off this season with back to back wins over the San Francisco 49ers and the Buffalo Bills before dropping their first game to the Saints. They then defeated the New England Patriots and the Detroit Lions in back to back contests. They followed that with their other two losses in order to the Philadelphia Eagles and the Chicago Bears. They enter this game with the Dolphins coming off a two-game winning streak over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Atlanta Falcons.
Miami has also been a bit streaky this season having won their first game over the San Deigo Chargers and then dropping two in a row to the New York Jets and the New Orleans Saints. They struggled out of the gate due mostly to the fact that the offense could not muster any points or very few points despite the defense seemingly keeping them in all three of those early games otherwise. Miami managed to only score 23 points combined in their first three games. The offense would do “okay” over the next two weeks given that their defense once again stepped up giving them victories over the Tennessee Titans and the Atlanta Falcons.
The rematch with the Jets game gave many Phins fans hope as they not only won the game over a team who had earlier shut them out but they also managed to put up 31 points on the board, the first time all season that the Dolphins were able to muster more than 20 points. That joy felt by Phin fans was quickly snuffed out by seeing their team once again shut out, only four days later, at the hands of the always problematic Baltimore Ravens. Miami followed that up by dropping what seemed to be a very winnable game at the hands of the struggling Oakland Raiders.
Tonight provides the Miami Dolphins with a chance to get back on track before they tally too many in the loss column. Here’s to hoping that Adam Gase is able to once again turn the ship around before it’s too late...
