Dolphins midseason MVP? Reshad Jones

Each week, SB Nation asks each of the NFL team sites a themed question. Today’s question was fairly simply - who is the midseason MVP for each team?

The Miami Dolphins are 4-3 heading into Week 9 of the 2017 NFL season. Things have not been pretty, with the three losses coming in two shutouts and another game in which they only scored as the clock ran out on the contest. The Dolphins have the worst offense in the league, and they are starting to look for ways to change it, starting with yesterday’s trade of running back Jay Ajayi to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Not everything is gloomy in Miami, however, as the defense has come to play this year. After struggling against the run in 2016, the team is currently eighth in the league against the ground game, and they are seventh in total defense. Clearly the strength of the team comes from the defense. But, who is the MVP midway through the season?

It is really a pretty straight forward questions. After missing much of last season with a shoulder injury, safety Reshad Jones is back to looking like the Pro Bowl player he is. He leads the team with 46 tackles (tied with linebacker Kiko Alonso), he has 0.5 sack, two fumble recoveries, and an interception this year. He is back to playing both as a coverage defensive back and as an extra linebacker up in the box. Jones has been everywhere on the field, and the Dolphins defense is clearly better simply because he is back out there.

Do you agree with Reshad Jones as the MVP?
