Here’s the gist of our new Phinsider series: we look at game tape as a Miami Dolphins family - and instead of just blindly accepting someone else’s conclusions, we form our own.
We’ve looked exclusively at offense thus far in the “What Happened Here?” series. It’s time to take a look at the defense.
We all know the offense has had its share of struggles (to put it mildly), but the defense didn’t play well either against the Baltimore Ravens. I was particularly frustrated at our ability to stop the run on this particular play, knowing:
A) Ryan Mallett was in the game
B) We were already severely behind on the scoreboard
Load up the box and force Mallett to beat you, right? Well let’s take a look at a play where the Ravens gashed us on the ground in exactly this circumstance and ascertain why it happened.
Context: 1st and 10, 14:53 left in the 3rd quarter, Dolphins down 20-0.
Here’s a horizontal look at the play...
Here’s a vertical look at the play...
What happened here? Why couldn’t we stop this play?
