When, and if, Vance Joseph becomes a head coach in the the coming days, the Dolphins have an in-house candidate they can turn to to take Joseph's place. As of right now, the plan would be to promote linebackers coach Matt Burke to defensive coordinator if Joseph leaves. Gase seems to be very high on him and he brought him along just so he could replace Joseph some day.
