For the first time in 46 years (the same amount of time I have been alive. Coincidence? I don't think so!) the two teams from the previous Superbowl meet during the first weekend of the NFL season. This time it just so happens to also be the kickoff game for the entire season. The Carolina Panthers will be looking to avenge their loss in the game that saw the Bronco's come out on top by the score of 24 to 10. The outcome of this game, of course, has far less real meaning but the task should still be easier for the Panthers now. Former Bronco's starting quarterback Peyton Manning has retired from football to focus full-time on his career making really annoying Direct TV commercials.
The Bronco's will begin the season with quarterback Trevor Siemian (Don't worry, I thought "Who?" as well.) under center. Siemian, in his second NFL season out of Northwestern University, has never attempted a pass during a regular-season NFL game. Starting his first game against Carolina's stout defense should be quite a special treat for the kid.
On the other side of the ball, the Panthers as everyone knows will be starting the NFL's 2015 MVP, quarterback Cam Newton, who ended the season marked by what can only be described as "sloppy play" in the Superbowl. Newton claims that this game will not serve as a "rematch" for his team but that they are simply the Panthers next opponent. In other news, I have a beautiful seaside beach cottage that I can sell you on the cheap. It's located in northern Nevada.
