The first weekend of college football play wraps up this evening with the Florida State Seminoles (4) and Ole Miss Rebels (11) facing off in Orlando Florida this evening. This evening's game will mark the first time these two teams have matched up against one another since 1961. Both teams enter the evening with high expectations with both also eying one of the four playoff spots at the end of the regular season. A win for either ranked team would be a good step for either team towards reaching their ultimate goal.
The Noles are coming off of a 10 and 3 season that many fans looked at as a rebuilding year. FSU has a potent offense led by Heisman Trophy hopeful running back Dalvin Cook. FSU also returns many of last seasons starters as well as national stand out's on defense, defensive end DeMarcus Walker and safety Derwin James. Many college football experts believe that the Seminoles will field their best defense ever in 2016, also making them the odds-on favorite to win the ACC.
Ole Miss resides in the most difficult conference in the country the SEC. Head coach Hugh Freeze has turned the Rebels into one of the more dominant teams in the SEC West in the last few years, a trend that he hopes to continue in 2016. Ole Miss saw three of their top players selected in the first round of the NFL draft earlier this year, including the Miami Dolphins' offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil, who by many accounts was the top player in the entire draft. Despite the loss of top talent, the Rebels hope that their depth of returning talent will help them continue their dominant ways.
