The Miami Dolphins are notifying players that they have been released, looking to get the roster down to the 53-man limit that goes into effect at 4pm ET today. The team started the day at 74 players on the active roster, meaning 21 roster moves have to be made.
The first of those was an obvious one, though it does not cont in our tracker for Miami to get to 53-players. Cornerback Chris Culliver, who signed as a free agent this summer but is still rehabbing from a knee surgery, was moved from the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list to the Reserve/PUP list. That move frees a roster spot for the Dolphins, but means Culliver will be unable to practice until after the sixth week of the season.
Earlier today, it was reported that the Dolphins had release tackle Sam Young. That move takes the team down to 20 players over the roster limit.
The Dolphins have also (via multiple media reports) released:
Chimdi Chekwa, CB
Deandre Coleman, DT
Shamiel Gary, S
Tyler Gray, LB
Chris Jones, DT
Dominique Jones, TE
Cleyon Laing, DE
Rashaan Melvin, CB
Cedric Reed, DE
Daniel Thomas, RB
That leaves Miami with ten players left to cut. We will post again as more cuts are known.
