Dolphins roster cuts 2016: Predicting the safety position

NFL: Preseason-Atlanta Falcons at Miami Dolphins Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

Saturday marks the final day for NFL teams to maintain 75 players on their roster. By 4pm ET, every team will need to be down to the in-season, 53-player limit, meaning tough decisions have to be made all around the league. We have been working our way through the Miami Dolphins’ roster, looking at each position group and attempting to predict who could make the roster, and who might be on the wrong side of the cut line. That continues now with the safeties.

Safely on the roster: Reshad Jones, Isa Abdul-Quddus, Michael Thomas

On the bubble: Walt Aikens, Shamiel Gary, A.J. Hendy

Based on how the roster has fallen at this point, the Dolphins have five roster positions available for the safety position, plus one practice squad spot, while they have six safeties on the 75-man roster. That allows the team to add Walt AIkens and Shamiel Gary to Reshad Jones, Isa Abdul-Quddus, and Michael Thomas on the roster. Then, A.J. Hendy is moved to the practice squad, filling that group as well.

53-man roster prediction: Reshad Jones, Isa Abdul-Quddus, Michael Thomas, Walt Aikens, Shamiel Gary

Practice squad: A.J. Hendy

Cut: None

Roster total: 50 of 53

Practice squad total: 10 of 10
