Dolphins overcome mistakes to beat Browns in overtime

NFL: Cleveland Browns at Miami Dolphins Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

The Miami Dolphins put their first win on the board on Sunday, overcoming the Cleveland Browns in overtime 30-24. More importantly, the Dolphins overcame their own issues and mistakes to pick up the win. Now, they have to stop making those mistakes and solve the issues.

Quarterback Ryan Tannehill was 25-for-39 for 319 yards with three touchdowns. Those are good stats. He also had two interceptions, including one that was just on a bad decision, and those are not so good. He finished the game with a 93.9 passer rating, indicating he had a fairly decent game, but he was inconsistent, and it cost Miami at times.

The Dolphins rushing attack put up 115 yards with a 4.6 yards per carry average and one touchdown. Individually, however, Kenyan Drake, who started the game, carried the ball nine times for 37 yards, Jay Ajayi carried the ball seven times for 28 yards with a touchdown, and Isaiah Pead carried the ball five times for 17 yards. The Dolphins ran well as a team, but did not have any kind of dominant runner in the contest.

The defense recorded four sacks and six quarterback hits on the day with seven tackles for a loss. However, they allowed 430 yards of offense and 169 rushing yards. Not to mention the 11-point lead they surrendered in the fourth quarter. Every time the team needed to make a stop, Terrelle Pryor seemed to be running free through the defense, either as a quarterback, a runner, or a receiver. The Dolphins defense was good at times, but it was not consistent and it nearly led to a third-straight loss.

This game left a lot to be desired from the team, but it also did give them a win over the Browns - in a game they should win. How they won was not as important as the win. Now, however, it is time to fix the issues and get ready for a quick turn around as the team hits the road for a Thursday night game against the Cincinnati Bengals this week.

The win was great in the sense of it being a win. It was a hard to watch game at times, and it has left a lot to be desired. Hopefully, this is just a stepping stone toward the Dolphins rebuilding themselves.
