The Miami Dolphins have several tough choices ahead of them over the next couple of days. Who will make the roster, and who will have to be cut? There is a numbers game at play, with only 53 slots available, and the team needing to ensure it has depth across the roster. How will it break down? We continue building the roster with the running back position.
On the roster: Jay Ajayi, Arian Foster, Kenyan Drake
On the bubble: Damien Williams, Daniel Thomas
Injured: Isaiah Pead
The Dolphins have Jay Ajayi and Arian Foster at the top of the depth chart, likely serving as co-starters (though Foster is likely the true starter after Ajayi struggled on Thursday night). Kenyan Drake will get a roster spot based on his potential and draft status, as well as the flashes he showed on Thursday. Damien Williams and Daniel Thomas could be considered neck-and-neck in their battle for the likely last roster spot. Based on Thursday night’s performance, as well as Gase and Thomas working together (briefly) with the Chicago Bears last year, he might have the slight edge, though it could go either way. Isaiah Pead should be on the roster, but his injury could land him on injured reserve with the ultimate move to bring him back during the season.
53-man roster prediction: Jay Ajayi, Arian Foster, Kenyan Drake, Daniel Thomas
Practice squad: None.
Cut: Damien Williams
IR: Isaiah Pead
Roster total: 6 of 53
Practice squad total: 1 of 10
