Dolphins odds flirting with touchdown underdog versus Patriots

NFL: New England Patriots at Arizona Cardinals Matt Kartozian-USA TODAY Sports

The Miami Dolphins were the league’s largest underdog last week, with Las Vegas pushing them to a double digit line against the Seattle Seahawks. They are not that far off from last week’s line as they prepare to face the New England Patriots in Week 2. The line opened with the Patriots favored by five points, but has continually moved and is now hovering around the seven point mark.

The Dolphins-Patriots seven-point line is the second largest line this week, though it is tied with the Tennessee Titans at Detroit Lions (-7), Baltimore Ravens (-7) at Cleveland Browns, Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Arizona Cardinals (-7), Seattle Seahawks (-7) at Los Angeles Rams, and Indianapolis Colts at Denver Broncos (-7). The largest line this week is a two-touchdown, 14-point line favoring the home Carolina Panthers against the visiting San Francisco 49ers.

Can Miami again beat the spread this week? Can they win straight up? It might depend on how well the defense gets after quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, who will be making just his second start in the NFL.

Las Vegas does not yet trust the Dolphins. Hopefully, after this week, we start to see the odds come back toward Miami’s favor.
