The Miami Dolphins have until Tuesday at 4pm ET to reduce their roster to the 75-man roster limit the league will begin enforcing at that time. The team got a head start on that today with the announcement that they have cut 11 players.
The team waived linebacker Akil Bount, offensive lineman Ruben Carter, wide receiver A.J. Cruz, long snapper Ryan DiSalvo, wide receiver Matt Hazel, tight end Gabe Hughes, kicker Marshall Koehn, cornerback Al Louis-Jean, guard Vinston Painter, and wide receiver Brandon Shippen. They released cornerback Brandon Harris.
Hazel may be the only real surprise in the group, though he has struggled to climb a depth chart dominated by players like Jarvis Landry, DeVante Parker, Kenny Stills, Leonte Carroo, and Jakeem Grant. Some of the players released, if they are not claimed off waivers or signed by another team, they could re-sign with Miami as members of the practice squad.
The moves take Miami down to 78 players on their roster. They will have to make three more moves before Tuesday’s deadline.
The league will again reduce the roster limit on September 3, down to the 53-man regular season size.
