It is definitely still mid-July, where, despite the franchise tag, suspension, and DeflateGate craze of yesterday, there really is not a lot happening around the NFL right now. Which also means, we get to break out some random things to talk about in our “Offseason Talk” group.

Today’s offseason talk is to ask you two questions. First, what movie title describes the 2015 Miami Dolphins season?

The second question is, what movie title will describe the 2016 Miami Dolphins season?

My 2015 answer will be Titanic. The Dolphins started the year with huge - unsinkable? - expectations to finally challenge the New England Patriots at the top of the division. Then, once the voyage through the schedule started, they clearly hit an iceberg and began sinking. Joe Philbin would have the role of Jack, eventually being pushed into the water after he failed to get the team moving in the right direction. Meanwhile, tight end coach and interim head coach Dan Campbell used the opportunity to survive and fight now. He did not get the Dolphins’ head coaching position, but he positioned himself with a good showing and he is now with the New Orleans Saints as the Assistant Head Coach. (Yes, I made Campbell into Rose - just don’t tell him.) At the end of the day, however, the Dolphins still sunk to the bottom of the ocean division.

My 2016 answer is going to be a sub-title that rarely gets used. I’m going with Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. I realize every person, myself included, simply calls Episode IV “Star Wars” and then the rest of the series gets the names like “Empire Strikes Back” and “Return of the Jedi,” but “A New Hope” works for Miami this year. Adam Gase is that new hope, and, while the evil Patriots Empire may still be out there for this season, eventually we can have the return of the (winning) Dolphins.

(Also, just as a side note, I am literally watching Episode VII as I am writing this, so I guess I know why Star Wars is in my head right now.)
