The New York Giants claimed waived quarterback Logan Thomas on Friday, dropping quarterback B.J. Daniels in the corresponding roster move. Thomas, a fourth-round draft pick of the Arizona Cardinals in 2014, spent the 2015 season with the Miami Dolphins, splitting time between the practice squad and the active roster. He was waived by Miami after their final minicamp practice on Thursday.

The Dolphins drafted Brandon Doughty in the seventh-round of this year’s Draft, likely eyeing him as the eventual replacement for Matt Moore as the primary backup to fifth-year quarterback Ryan Tannehill. Thomas, who was promoted off the practice squad last year to prevent other teams from poaching him, was seen as a developmental project by the previous coaching regime, but seemed to lose that status with the selection of Doughty in the Adam Gase regime.

The Giants signed Daniels after a rookie minicamp tryout, looking at the possibility of keeping him as a third quarterback behind Eli Manning and Ryan Nassib. It appears they will now take a look at Thomas for that potential roster position.
