Miami Dolphins pick Jordan Lucas in sixth round

The Miami Dolphins have selected their second sixth round pick.

Matthew O'Haren-USA TODAY Sports

With the 204th overall pick, a sixth round selection, the Miami Dolphins have selected Penn State safety Jordan Lucas.

Lucas could be moved to the slot as a cornerback in the NFL, and he did play it in college before moving to safety. At 6-foot, 201 pounds, he does have the size Miami seems to want at cornerback, and he has the man-coverage skills the team wants. He could play a role similar to Jimmy Wilson in the past and Michael Thomas now, where he is a hybrid "big-nickel" type of player, working both as a nickel corner and as a safety.

Day 3 for the Dolphins has been exciting. The team started the day with picks 147 (5th round), 227 (7th round), and 231 (7th round). They traded out of the 5th round, giving the pick to the New England Patriots in return for the 196th pick and 204th pick, both in the 6th round, and pick 250, a seven round choice. After no selections in the first two rounds on the day, Miami then jumped back up to the 186th pick, their original selection in the 6th round, but a pick they had traded to the Minnesota Vikings for a third round trade on Friday.

To make the move back up to 186, the Dolphins gave the Vikings picks 196 and 227.

The Dolphins are next on the clock with the 231st overall pick, followed by the 250th overall pick, both in the seventh round.
