With the 186th overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, the Miami Dolphins have selected Texas Tech wide receiver Jakeem Grant. Grant, at 5-foot-6, is likely primarily a returner for the Dolphins. He officially ran a 4.38 second 40-yard dash at his Pro Day, but told the media after the pick that he has been hand timed by his coaches as running a 4.1 second, and that he was "pissed" by the Pro Day time.

The Dolphins traded up in the sixth round, having initially had the 196th overall pick when the round started as their first pick. The Dolphins traded the 196th pick and the 227th pick to the Vikings for the 186th pick.

This pick marks the first selection for the Dolphins on Day 3. The team initially held the 147th overall pick, a fifth-round selection, but they traded that pick to the New England Patriots for 19th overall and 204th overall picks, both in the sixth round, and the 250th pick, in the seventh round. They also traded away their fourth-round pick during the second round, giving it to the Baltimore Ravens in exchange for moving from the 42nd pick to the 38th selection. They used that pick to select Baylor cornerback Xavien Howard.

The Dolphins initially traded away this sixth-round pick, giving it to the Minnesota Vikings, along with 2017 third- and fourth-round picks, to trade back into the third round, where they selected Rutgers wide receiver Leonte Carroo with the 86th overall pick. Miami has also selected Ole Miss offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil (1st round, 13th overall) and Alabama running back Kenyan Drake (3rd round, 73rd overall) during this year's Draft.

Miami is next on the clock in the seventh round with the 227th overall pick. They also have the 231st pick.
